Continental Update

Promotion has already become a 3 horse race between Ag2r, Agritubel and Barloworld.

Mondory, Nocentini, Gadret and Usov are the lead riders for Ag2r while with 14 wins, Romain Feillu has been a major asset for Barloworld while the likes of Plouhinec, Martinez and Vogondy have scored well. In the non french corner, Kairelis, Hunter, Soler and Siutsou are doing well for Barloworld.

And in the past couple of days, Barloworld have leaped from 3rd to 1st. In Switzerland they took a 1-2-3 of Siutsou, Kairelis, Sartasov in the GP Triberg Schwarzward, followed up by a surprise win for Robbie Hunter the next day in the Kantan Aargou. Soler meanwhile took a stagewin as he finished 3rd overall in the Euskal Bizkleta. Barloworld can now look to press forward there advantage since Ag2r and Agritubel are riding in the Dauphine and the Tour de France.

Alberto Contador would be pleased if he could retain his title here - who would bet against him? Meanwhile, there is a strong TT line up as we look towards the Eindhoven TTT later this month.

Team: Contador, Efimkin, Millar, Bodrogi, Hoy, Chtioui, Lloyd, Mouris

Stage 1

Having claimed this stage to be 8km long, the race organisers changed their mind and made it just 2km.

Chris Hoy set a good time despite a poor daily form, beating Sebastien Rosseler by 1 second.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL%20Story/dauphinel2.png

But Cancellara was able to go a second faster.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL%20Story/dauphinel3.png

Linus Gerdemann couldnt find a second faster than Cancellara but his time was enough to beat the Swiss champ
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL%20Story/dauphinel4.png
Laszlo Bodrogi went 3rd, frustratingly less than a second behind Gerdemann.

We wondered if anyone would go faster, of course the answer was yes, since Bradley Wiggins is riding.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL%20Story/dauphinel5.png

Brad knocked 2 seconds off the lead and would win the stage, with the penultimate rider to ride slotting into 2nd - Contador.

Stage 2

Our Tunisian Rafaa Chtioui went with the break and won the only KoM sprint to take the KoM jersey.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL%20Story/dauphinel7.png

He also won an intermediate sprint, and came 2nd in the other one.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL%20Story/dauphinel8.png

The break were caught a long way before the finish but Chtioui had no issues staying with the peleton and the time bonus will lift him level to Contador.

McEwen (Gerolsteinrer) was well placed in the sprint
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL%20Story/dauphinel9.png

Stage 3

Today is the first major test for the riders
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL%20Story/dauphinel11.png

Dan Lloyd was in the break that also included Pozzato, Gilbert and Leukemens. He rode well and picked up a decent amount of KoM points in the day.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL%20Story/dauphinel12.png

The peleton kept them close though due to the strong riders in there, and the break was swallowed up on the 3rd KoM, although Lloyd clung on to take 5th in the climb, which gave him 8 points, taking his days total to 16. He will not get the jersey but its a good platform for future attempts at it.

On the fourth climb, Gesink, Kloden, Rogers, Joly, Chavanel and Kreuziger attacked. While the latter 2 dropped back after the KoM, the other did not and were joined on the 5th and final KoM hill by Gerdemann and Contador (In the Blue young riders jersey).
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL%20Story/dauphinel13.png

Contador took the maximum 20 points on the climb.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL%20Story/dauphinel14.png

The group headed towards the finish, one of the 6 would win but who? The sprint is a 3km sprint and none of the riders are particularly good sprinters, Rogers is the best with 62 sprint. A bit of tactics came into place, with noone wanting to lead and this allowed Gomez Marchante to catch up. While some tried to play the tactics game, Contador saw what was happening and moved to the front taking a strong pace and amazingly, a small gap appeared.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL%20Story/dauphinel15.png

Have the other 6 riders just handed Contador the win? They could not close down the gap, and would not start sprinting until Contador did. So Alberto held off the sprint to the final kilometre
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL%20Story/dauphinel16.png

And it was just too easy
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL%20Story/dauphinel17.png

Meanwhile, Efimkin took 8th and was unlucky to not gain any time.

Stage 4

A 28km hilly time trial.

Chris Hoy was an early leader before Bodrogi edged past him by 1 second. Wiggins would then go 9 seconds faster than Hungarian
https://i202.photo...hinel1.png

Rafaa Chtioui put in a strong performance and led at the first 2 checkpoints, before fading to a still very good 4th.

Things would next change when a trio of riders hit the course in succession of each other. Steensen, Cornu and Cancellara. Steensen couldnt quite beat Bodrogi or Hoy going 4th, but Cornu took the lead.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL%20Story/dauphinel19.png

And Cancellara was unable to beat Cornu.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL%20Story/dauphinel20.png

But none of the riders finished so far at this point will end the day in the top 10 of the stage.

Carlos Barredo took 5 seconds out of Cornu before an impressive Karpets took half a minute out of his teammates mark.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL%20Story/dauphinel21.png
But Karpets was overshadowed by the rider immediately after him, as a strong David Millar powered to a lead of 21 seconds.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL%20Story/dauphinel22.png

Rogers, Kreuziger, Chavanel, Gomez Marchante, Gerdemann and Kloden all set times in the top 10 but the only rider threatening to Millar was Contador.
i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa82/SportingNonsense/DFL%20Story/dauphinel23.png

Contador led through both checkpoints but did not go flat out at the finish, settling for 2nd place as Millar takes the win.

it's not fair, when my riders upgrade there overall score stays the same and a couple of their usless stats go up a bit. For example Klyuev moved up a level on my LPR story, he's a sprinter/punchuer but the only stats that improved were his hilly, stamina and cobble by 1 point each. whats the point!!!:x:x:x

great story by the way, keep it cominGrin

Deadpool
Punchuer increases Hill, Stamina, Fighter, and Sprint, so although the cobbles one makes no sense, the other two do

If it's from level 1 to 2 it doesnt increase the main stat much if at all Ringo
