As mentioned last time February was more of a training than racing month for us. Michael Christodoulos did a nice job in Ukraine to score us some points just to keep us ticking over. The races going on in March and the next months will be far more crucial for us and will give us a better indication of where we stand.

Vuelta al Pais Vasco | Race Report Race Date | Race Category | Race Goals | 06.03 - 11.03 | 2.HC | Top 20 GC; 2x Top 35 GC |
Vuelta al Pais Vasco opened with a team time-trial. Cedevita finished the stage 12th out of 24 teams. Only 28'' behind the winning time was deemed a decent result. The next two stages were largely uneventful, besides the fact that Matej Vysna lost major time and wasn't a GC option anymore. The stage 4 individual time-trial shaked things up to the point that young Tadej Pogacar in 21st became the best placed rider in the team ahead of the final two decisive stages. Christodoulos made a token appearance in the breakaway on stage 5. Both Pogacar and Gaudu were dropped on the final climb to Arrate and finished outside the top 30.

Given the disappointment of that stage Pogacar entered the early breakaway on the final and was joined by Vysna and Gilanipoor. Both working for the youngster and all three together going into the final 5 km as the breakaway remained ahead of the peloton. It was up to the youngster to finish the job as he kept holding on, even as the favourites hit the front. He finished in a fantastic 8th place on the stage. That vaulted him into 20th in GC and top among the best young riders under 25. Not bad in what for all intents and purposes was his debut race for Cedevita!

It is! Especially after having him on loan the last two years. Hopefully I can keep him for next season also

Circulo de Juarez | Race Report Race Date | Race Category | Race Goals | 08.03 - 12.03 | C2.1 | Top 10 GC; Top 3 Stage |
After a below average performance in Barbados, Lahcen Saber and team traveled to Mexico looking for a better result. The start was far from good though. Saber didn't finish top 10 in either of the first two stages. He then managed to finish 4th on stage 3 which was just in time to still give him a chance at a good GC result.
The next day Cedevita helped with chasing duties and Saber again managed to get himself in a decent position to finish 6th. But that only dropped him from 12th to 13th in GC. So a good result on the final day was required. The team again helped with chasing duties, this even delivering a leadout. Antonijevic gave Saber a good position and the Moroccan was able to get another 4th place. That bumped him up to 7th in the final GC. A nice bounce back race for the Cedevita sprinter.

Seventh is not too bad I guess, although a better stage result obviously was desirable. Nevertheless, it's really nice to see Pogacar winning the white jersey in Pais Vasco. I hope it is the first of many!
We'll be meeting on +- 30 days in April and May, looking forward to racing next to you and attacking together again like we did in Hong Kong earlier. This time I'd like to not be dropped immediately after attacking though

I would say 7th is probably above average, notwithstanding the fact you need a good amount of luck in these overcrowded sprint races. Pogacar certainly ended up doing as well as could be expected in a race of that quality
Attacking is usually a good sign for delivering a desirable result. Especially for someone like Beltran. So I love to see us starting or joining any opportunistic move

Hoping for a Beltran top-5 in Strade, whereas I'm really interested to see how Alarcon will perform in Eritrea. No time trial is obviously a good thing for him, but there are still some question marks concerning his physical stats and punching capacities for me.

Strade Bianche | Race Report Race Date | Race Category | Race Goals | 23.03 | 1.HC | Top 10; 2x Top 30 |
The team was in Tuscany for Strade Bianche although the roads were more gray than white due to the wet conditions. With Beltran as team leader Cedevita did not enter the breakaway, they instead assumed chasing duties. From rouleur Poljanec to newly acquired puncheur Gaudu, the team worked to bring back the breakaway as well as shed the peloton of riders such as Di Maggio. Eventually reducing the peloton to 29 riders heading into the final 10 km.
Miha Poljanec setting the pace at the front of the peloton
Everything set for Beltran to attack, as the Colombian did. Van Garderen, Betancourt and Ponzi followed initially, but all four were brought back with 5 km to go. 17 riders entered the final kilometer. An uphill sprint would decide the race. It was a tight finish at the line and despite Beltran being well positioned, he just couldn't match the sprint of some other riders. He finished in a very reputable 5th place, which was a just reward for the work done by the entire team. David Gaudu added to the scoring in 28th.
