Passed Robbie McEwen riding a couple of times yesterday. First time i've ever seen a pro/former pro cyclist out riding. What about you guys? Especially Europeans, do you guys come accross known cyclists very often?

I saw Robbie McEwen at a book signing in my local shopping centre just over a year ago, just after he retired. I talked to him for a moment about the promising young sprinters at OGE (where I knew he was going to work as a sprint coach) and he seemed like a really cool guy. I bought a copy of his book while I was there and he signed that for me too, so that's something. Still haven't even opened it apart from that Pfft

Given that the only European-based pro that I know of from my local area is Chris Sutton (who is from one suburb away from me) I've unsurprisingly never knowingly seen any pro out on the road.

The Hobbit
My thing has passed up for the story section now. Can't get into cycling, story game, or stories now Sad
Just have to click on some hyperlinks I guess... Sad
Really annoying now, will try and fix on Wednesday.

Met Georg Totschnig after his career once by accident in our town in a shopping mall I think. Can't really remember right.
I also once got passed by Gerrit Glomser, like 10 years ago, when he was still riding for Saeco. Damn, that guy was fast...

That would have been pretty awesome!
It's actually a pretty good book. The opening chapter is great. He tells Armstrong to get fucked so it's fantastic. Did he say who he thought had the most potential or anything similar?

I distinctly remember him mentioning Leigh Howard.

Ah ok fair enough. Haven't heard much about Howard in a while. Did he mention Keukleire? More of a classics rider I know but, yeah.

The closest I can come is seeing Magnus Cort on the other side of the road on a training ride last summer. He was together with a couple of guys from Bornholm Pro Cycling. Since Cort is from Bornholm and I was living there at the time it wasn't really that surprising, but still fun.

I don't think so but then again he may have just been talking about Australian riders because he thought others would find it more interesting.

Not so much seeing someone on a ride, but Nino Schurter did pose for a picture from me after he got Silver in the Olympics, that was pretty cool. https://www.flickr.com/photos/sumofmar...1045464526

Well, I might be a bit jealous of all of you now Wink
I've never even seen a pro in real-life, or at least I think I don't.

I just live in the wrong side of the country Wink

I've seen all the big names around where I live. Holohan, Fleeman, Frend, David Clarke. As you can see, a real hub for world-class cyclists...

I also saw a guy in full Saxo kit a few years back, including the bike, but I don't think Schleck lives near me so I reckon it was just a guy with too much money.

I met a group (somewhere around 10) of Quickstep riders when I was on vacation in the Alps with my family a couple of years back. Unfortunately, we were going up a mountain (by car) while they were descending, so I wasn't able to see who they were.

Still a pretty cool experience, since it'd never happen at home!

I've met loads of UK riders at various Tour Series, Premier Calendar and ToB events. But out on the roads i did see various teams/riders around the Olympics. I lived about 20 minutes from Box Hill and was regularly in the area in the preceding months when people were out training and reconing the route.

I more often meet other sportspeople, like Rebecca Adlington, Matt Le Tissier, Johnny Wilkinson, Joe Launchbury and more

I have a signature of a few riders including Tony Martin, Steegmans and Devolder.
I saw this riders at the 2010 eneco tour ITT in Genk. I can tell you that Martin was the first rider to arive in Genk and he had to start as one of the last. Very professional Smile
