Tour of Bulgaria - Stage 2
tsmoha

Second consecutive flat stage, this time with a less challenging second half. Will the sprinters deliver this time? Or will we see a similar move like yesterday's solo-effort from race-leader Eichler?

i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/tsmoha/MG14_Reports/MG14_Eritrea/MG14_Bulgaria/14Bulgaria_2_002_zps2429ddb8.jpg

The stage again kicks off with the peloton not allowing any escape and so the first intermediate sprint is contested by the top-sprinters:

Sprint #1 i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mag.png Drujon i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pbn.png Ulanowski i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rep.png Andriato

i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/tsmoha/MG14_Reports/MG14_Eritrea/MG14_Bulgaria/14Bulgaria_2_003_zps9d476a19.jpg

Three riders would then finally build the tour's first real breakaway group... and this group would survive until the final 10km, where i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kap.png Fonzi would be the last man standing, holding on to a 34"-gap on the chasing bunch.

So those escapees would also contest for all remaining intermediate sprints, with the white jersey (Manfred) adding some more bonus seconds to his account:

The peloton does a better job than yesterday, also swallowing Fonzi as the last escapee right in time.. Magna, Privatbank and Hornbach did most of the work in this chase.

i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/tsmoha/MG14_Reports/MG14_Eritrea/MG14_Bulgaria/14Bulgaria_2_005_zpsbb03754a.jpg

Magna, Privatbank and Repsol would be the teams to build the sprint-trains:

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mag.png Speirs
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rep.png Acevedoi439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mag.png Belletti

i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/tsmoha/MG14_Reports/MG14_Eritrea/MG14_Bulgaria/14Bulgaria_2_006_zpsf4dc286e.jpg

Privatbank again with their two men moving forward to the very front, and again followed by Magna's duo and Guillen. Those five sprinting for a small gap at this point.

i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/tsmoha/MG14_Reports/MG14_Eritrea/MG14_Bulgaria/14Bulgaria_2_007_zps5a026f80.jpg

It looks like a fight between i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pbn.png Ulanowski, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mag.png Drujon and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/onc.png Guillen, as they hold on to this small advantage..

..the situation behind changes with every metre: Grosu, Van Poppel, Cano on the further positions at this point.

i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/tsmoha/MG14_Reports/MG14_Eritrea/MG14_Bulgaria/14Bulgaria_2_008_zpsf067ea79.jpg

The leading trio head-to-head now with the line approaching! And the other sprinters narrowed the gap in the meantime, with Park, Andriato, Martin and Breschel as the most notable names moving forward with some speed yet!

i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/tsmoha/MG14_Reports/MG14_Eritrea/MG14_Bulgaria/14Bulgaria_2_009_zpsbc6ce2f0.jpg

Still a fight between the mentioned trio... actually... it's just Guillen and Drujon head-to-head now!

i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x323/tsmoha/MG14_Reports/MG14_Eritrea/MG14_Bulgaria/14Bulgaria_2_010_zpsf9e0519c.jpg

And i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/onc.png Guillén takes it! A thrilling sprint and a close decision, in which i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mag.png Drujon finishes 2nd ahead of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pbn.png Ulanowski. Well played by ONCE, just like in yesterday's bunch sprint for the runner-up spot.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rep.png Andriato with a strong kick on 4th ahead of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/met.png Grosu, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/hrc.png Van Poppel and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cpl.png Park, who might have had better chances if he hadn't missed the first trains here.

No notable changes in the GC except of those bonus seconds doing their thing. Eichler retains his lead, yet facing the first hilly stage tomorrow. It seems to be the "easier" of the two hilly stages, but of course premium puncheurs like Dowsett or Skujins will need to try something on those days.
