The Tour de Langkawi kicks off with a flat stage and the first of many chances for the sprinters. Also the breakaway experts could get rewarded here as in total 18 bonus seconds are given as also the first KoM wearer.
Favourites are:
Guillen
Meyer
Forero
Vingerling
Most teams are hoping for their sprinters to perform well later today. And so it`s only one rider in todays breakaway. And who else but
Passeron could be expected to give it a try. Many good results for him in the last seasons out of a breakaway.
So there were still points and seconds to be given to the peloton and we see the top4 sprinters all going for it. So seeing that those already spend some energy it might be a good chance for 2nd tier sprinters, that are less exhausted in the end.
Here it`s
Guillen outsprinting
Meyer for 2nd.
Vingerling and
Forero without taking anything here.
2nd sprint and again
Guillen proving to be the fastest of those top4.
Vingerling this time 3rd here ahead of Meyer and Forero.
And to make it 3 in a row also the last sprint. Again
Guillen showing his full speed taking the next 4 points.
Meyer to take the 3rd again ahead of Vingerling.
This time Forero realized earlier that he can`t match the speed and just started the sprint a bit without going full speed.
First crash here in Malaysia.
Rubiano Chavez hits the ground but is able to join the peloton again.
He is a decent climber and could become a good helper in the tough mountain stages.
With 13km to go the gap is down to 1min for
Passeron. A success here wasn`t really expected but at least he rewards himself with the KoM jersey tomorrow. Well done.
2nd here Cancellara for Alpina working for Forero while Dani Moreno takes 3rd as he also needs to work for Vingerling. Obviously the team is mainly hoping for good sprint results instead of a high GC of the 2012 runner up.
Also one of Arroyo`s helper has to work hard for the team`s sprinter as Rojas Villegas chases for Guillen.
Only 5,4km less and Passeron would have taken the win. But he is caught now and the sprinters start to position themselves.
3 or better 4 sprint trains today. The road has a good size, so it`s enough room for everybody.

Vingerling | Awang | | Forero |

Dall'Antonia | Uugunbayar | | |
Richeze | | Sinner | |
Vanderaerden with a really nice leadout here. He is a top5 sprinter here and Meyer can be happy to get such a leadout.
Guillen realized this as well and has left Cano`s wheel switching over behind Meyer. Also Manarelli found a good wheel behind him.
Meanwhile Vingerling has changed the side and is following Eefting to close the gap. Next to him Forero and Awang.
Vanderaerden did a good leadout but it probably was one rider too less for Meyer, who starts an early sprint here with Guillen still sitting behind him. 1,6km to go!
Manarelli and Forero next already with a small gap.
Vingerling with Dall'Antonia behind him still has Eefting ahead of him.
Meyer gets a small gap to Guillen behind him. But Forero is coming fast now and also Vingerlin has started the sprint. It indeed looks like a fight of the top4 sprinters today as Vanderaerden drops back and also Dall'Antonia, Manarelli etc. can`t match the high speed.
Meyer vs. Guillen? Second is coming closer with every meter and we just passed the Flamme Rouge!
Forero and Vingerling behind also with a good speed as also some more riders not having got a mention yet such as
Dong or
Herrera.
Meyer is clearly beaten as he slows down now.
Guillen looks confident to win the opener as Forero can`t close the gap.
That said fastest right now is Vingerling coming closer.
Forero obviously also beaten and actually Dall'Antonio could battle for the last podium spot.
In front it`s only Guillen or Vingerling to take the win.
And it`s Guillen who keeps one bike length to his favour.
Vingerling still on a nice 2nd here. Weaker positioning did cost him a better result probably but he got a brilliant leadout by Eefting to be able to take 2nd in the end.
Meyer just wins the sprint for 3rd ahead of Forero with Dall'Antonio taking a clear 5th.
Behind the top5 it was a close fight with Herrera, Dong and Opie crossing the line first. Vanderaerden in hte end still on a good 10th after a long leadout behind a surprising rider here in Txurruka, who takes the 9th.
Disappointing results for Manarelli as 11th, Richeze 13th, Clavero 14th, Awang 15th, Uugunbayer 20th or Sinner 21st.
And as Passeron was able to stay in the peloton for the last 5km, he will jump onto the 2nd in the GC next to the KoM lead.
