looks very nice, but I'm waiting for the PC version, since that's probably PS3.
it's typical of konami to give little info on their games. usually we'll have to find out when it's released...which, as always is in the fall

to be honest i have never really liked the PES series, just because i can't play a football game without the real names of footballers, stadiums, etc.
is there any news on whether it has real names this year, i got last years PES, but was very dissapointed at them still not having real names (plus i'm much more of a FIFA lad myself) |

FIFA? oh my god
"we must convert the heathen!" (you have no idea what you're missing )
anyway, on the real names thing...
just get a mod. the evolution patch 1.3 is quite something.
all real names.
fabulous stats, not those so-so of the original pes or the....well...let's not touch those of fifa
279 stadiums
5 to 38 different kits, depending on team. including goalkeeper kits
quite a few real life chants for each and EVERY team on the game.
hundreds of balls...
players so life-like they look like photographs.
just a fantastic mod.
of course, this is for PC ah, mods...the great advantage of the PC. those 3 letter things "mod"s that make games so much better than the original that most console players can only dream

to be honest i have always thought FIFA has had better gameplay as well (sorry)
@issoisso; i think my main concern is as you say, that is for PC, i prefer my football (playing, not managing) games to be on PS2/PS3 and i doubt you can get all that stuff you listed on PS...
but all the things you mentioned sound great, i may be forced to try PES on PC, and obviously get these 'mod' things you talk about |

Better gameplay!?
PES has a much better gameplay, because the players don't have glue on their footballshoe.. And a lot of the goals in fifa looks the same.. |

For some strange reason, I find the main difference between the two is that FIFA makes it players too small, which spoils the gameplay.
Strange, but I find it to be true

i don't know why i find it to have better gameplay, i must just have it programmed in my head that it's the best, because i've bought it since FIFA 99
and Crommy, i've just thought and the players do look small on FIFA |

actually, Thomas is right. the mainstay of PES' realistic gameplay has always been that the ball has independent physics to the players, unlike FIFA, which is scripted.
that is, as a player has the ball, the ball "is" part of the player, if you understand what I mean.
Electronic Arts have announced that they now have "revolutionary new ball physics", which basically means that this year's FIFA-innovation-that-is-actually-copied-from-PES is what I described above.
I'm sorry if I sound anti-FIFA, but as a student of computer engineering, we actually study EA's policies as examples of ways NOT to develop software.
Especially their fantastic "strategy" when it comes to employment. hire temps. when their internships run out, don't sign them permanently on a real salary....just get more temps...and so on.... and now nobody wants to join that company....I wonder why?
anyway,
many other things are scripted with FIFA, which means that in most situations there are few possible outcomes.
think about it. ever have the feeling while playing FIFA that you know where you must shoot to get it in? that you know what's going to happen at a given point?

i suppose so, i mean i play on the hardest level 'world class' and it is so easy, i beat Chelsea 5-0 with Watford
so now that you have all made me realise that it is actually not that good, i will give the new PES a go (along with FIFA still, sorry) |

Actually, mods are also possible for the PS2-version. I had a "MaxDrive" for my PS2 before I sold it. It was like a USB-pen, but it was also compatible with PS2. I then transferred some kind of real name mod from PC to PS2, and wupti, real names for my PS2-game too.
Personally, I'm a huge fan of the PES-series, but I don't think I will ever get used to be playing that kind of games on a PC. I have just bought a controller, so it might change, but as it is now, I prefer that kind of games on my PS2 and management games for PC |

i am exactly the same, and if there is one of them 'mods' for the PS2 this year then i would definatley get that
how much was the 'mod' btw, or was it free or can't you remember?

It was free. The only thing which costed me money was the MaxDrive. I bought it through Play.com. |

after this thread a while ago where I kind of "put out there" the upside of PES versus FIFA for the sake of those who haven't given PES a proper go
as a follow up I'd just like to add this:
the Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 demo comes out on the 21st apparently.
I've just been reading an article on the new AI. It was a technical article of which I'm interested simply because it is the area which I study. my expertise so to say.
here's what you all should know without any technical crap:
they spent the whole year working almost solely on the AI.
the little scripting that had happened before has been ENTIRELY removed.
for a short explanation on scripting:

think about it. ever have the feeling while playing FIFA that you know where you must shoot to get it in? that you know what's going to happen at a given point?
also, the new AI system envolves some quite extraordinary new techniques that I will not bother you with, but I will summarise as such:
the AI adapts to you. no matter how you play, what traits you exhibit, what vices you have. the AI will adapt, just as a real human does.
I'm itching to try it. given some of the techniques they used, I'm absolutely sure the AI will be the best ever in any game
here's to the demo on the 21st!
