Tour of Japan - Stage 7
roturn
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/mg_japan_7_25.jpg
The Tour of Japan comes to an end with a last flat criterium in Tokyo.
Many sprinters already abandoned on the hard hilly stages, so the stage favourites are limited.

The strong Meiji duo
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Meiji.png Arashiro & Park
Rapha`s next chance for a stage win
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/rapha.png Abdallah
Jayco`s hilly sprinter
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/redbull.png Sonnery
And outsider chances for
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png Capecchi and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Fothen

3 riders attack soon after the start.
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pirelli.png Murgoitio
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/proximus.png Shatskikh
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/oz-1.png Bennett
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/mg_japan_7_26.jpg

They are joined by i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Criel and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png Maisto
So these two teams won`t do anything for their sprinters obviously.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/mg_japan_7_27.jpg

Meiji`s Suzuki is doing all the work alone. Meiji really wants a stage win in their home race, so other teams are waiting for them to do the whole pace.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/mg_japan_7_28.jpg
65km -> 5'15

Coming into the more serious phase of the race, 3 riders are doing the work.
Meiji`s Suzuki and Doi and Rapha`s Hussein. The gap is melting and it`s looking good for the first real sprint finish in Japan.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/mg_japan_7_29.jpg

For some reason they stop the pace with 12km to go and just 1min gap and instead start the sprint trains. But this is far too early as the group isn`t even caught yet.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/mg_japan_7_30.jpg

So another disappointing outcome for the sprinters as the 5 men group will also decide this flat stage thanks to a tactical disaster. Shatskikh is leading out this group and surely has the worst position.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/mg_japan_7_31.jpg

Arashiro, Park and Abdallah riding next to each other in a slow peloton now. Surely all 3 of them are really pissed right now.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/mg_japan_7_32.jpg

With 1,5km to go i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/oz-1.png Bennett leaves the last position and starts his sprint.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/mg_japan_7_33.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Criel reacts first trying to follow while the others are still hanging on Shatskikh`s wheel.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/mg_japan_7_34.jpg

Nice win for Bennett. Surely a small happy end for the Australian team, who had a rather disappointing race so far.
Criel finishing 2nd ahead of Maisto, Murgoitio and Shatskikh.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/mg_japan_7_35.jpg

Not only the sprints disaster. Also a crash in a really slow peloton. Lot`s of chaos now. Nobody knows, who was in this crash. But three jersey can be seen easily.
French champion i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/redbull.png Gadret
Point jersey i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/rapha.png Froome and KoM jersey i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/redbull.png Vorganov, who obviously was the initiator of this crash.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/mg_japan_7_36.jpg
Also some other top 10 riders are there.
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Meiji.png Doi was just blocked but hanging behind the peloton while his team mate Sano is also on the ground.
And how could it be different. Also i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wwe.png Kessiakoff is on the asphalt once more.
A big surprise that Bobridge was able to stay on his wheel today.

This could have been a 1-2 for Meiji today as Park wins the sprint ahead of Arashiro and Abdallah, but it`s just for the 6th.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/mg_japan_7_37.jpg
Doi is losing 49s in the first group of blocked riders.

More than 2min later the group around Froome and Gadret cross the line.
Both of them will stay in the late top 10 but will lose their good overall position.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/PCM11_April/mg_japan_7_38.jpg
New 3rd is Ferrari`s Niemiec ahead of Moreno and Ben Nasser in the top 5.
Meiji`s Lloyd misses the top 5 by just a little bit ahead of Froome and Gadret, who at least stayed ahead of Costa and Proni as last of the top 10.

De la Fuente wins the Tour of Japan absolutely deserved as he was surely the strongest with some luck to avoid any crashes as also Augustyn as 2nd.

Froome still winning the point ranking equal with De la Fuente, Vorganov keeps his KoM jersey as he is not injured and finished the race. Bobridge takes the youth ranking and brings at least a few points while Jayco dominated the team ranking and just Meiji was able to "challenge" them a bit.

Also congrats to Ferrari, who is the only team with still 7 riders in this race with lots of abandons.
