Tour of Japan stage 6
mb2612
Today is the last chance for people to attack Van der Velde, although the hills are unlikely to be steep enough to drop him

Cobo, Chavanel and Feillu are the three main favourites for the stage, lets see how they do

We have a 4 man break, Stolz, Gallego Martin, Van Ooijen and Zwizanski
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0212.jpg

64km to go and Saldarriaga attacks
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0213.jpg

Pancake, Salgueiro and Seledkov follow
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0214.jpg

Up front, Van Ooijen punctures
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0215.jpg

The attackers are pulled back with 48km to go
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0217.jpg

When Van Ooijen is pulled back with 28km to go, the rest of the break still have a 2 minute gap, and Gallego Martin has had a lovely rest at the back, while Santander have been chasing
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0218.jpg

Up front, Stoltz has to give up the ghost
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0219.jpg

Back in the peleton Cobo attacks,
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0220.jpg

he crosses the line with 25km to go with a 30s lead on the peleton

3km later that gap is at 50 seconds and Chavanel and Arashiro decide to follow
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0221.jpg

Cobo rides past Stotlz and is now 40 seconds behind his teammate and some assistance
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0222.jpg

Chavanel manages to attack up to Stolz, Cobo is just ahead
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0223.jpg

In the peleton Hansen attacks
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0224.jpg

While Arashiro and Chavanel join Cobo
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0225.jpg

The peleton breaks down, as Nazaret, Kairelis, Duran and Van der Velde all attack
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0226.jpg

14km to go and Hansen makes it up to the Cobo group
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0227.jpg

Soon after we have a front 6 and now Cobo is in virtual yellow
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0228.jpg

Van der Velde, Nazaret and Kairelis have formed a chasing trio 50 seconds behind the leaders
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0229.jpg

10km to go and Chavanel attacks, Cobo has to follow
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0230.jpg

Chavanel gets a small gap but Cobo pushes on
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0231.jpg

Hansen tries to get across
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0233.jpg

While Chavanel just rides up to Cobo's wheel
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0234.jpg

Hansen makes it a front 3 with 6km to go
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0235.jpg

Behind Hesjedal is pushing hard and the chaser are just 33 seconds back, Van der Velde is back in yellow
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0236.jpg

As they catch Gallego Martin there is confusion amoungst the chasers, and with time running out, they can't afford that
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0237.jpg

Up front the sprint kicks off, bonus seconds will be vital
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0238.jpg

Chavenal takes the lead with 1km to go, if Hansen passes Cobo, then Chavenal will pass him on the overall
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0240.jpg

And yes, As Chavenal takes the stage, Cobo's third means he may well get the overall victory too.
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0241.jpg

He needs 33 seconds, but when Van der Velde crosses the line the clock reads 46. Chavenal has done it.
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0242.jpg

Nazaret gets 5th, with Karelis 6th ahead of Hesjedal Gallego Martin and Arashiro

Gusev solo's in tenth at 1'15"
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0243.jpg

Then Zwizanski at 1'51"
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0244.jpg

And the peleton at 2'15"
i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad301/mb2612/Germany%20Japan/PCM0245.jpg

So Chavanel takes the stage Cobo is 2nd on the same time, but with worse results in the sprints, while Van der Velde is 3rd 11 seconds back
