Stage 5 is a individual time-trial up to Mt. Fuji. This may define the winner of the race as the next stage may not be hilly enough to make any differences. In the last stage, Lloret won and took the yellow jersey. Can he hold it on at the end of this stage?
Note the wind changes that can be crucial in a stage like this.
Glomser is an early starter and uses his climbing abilities to make first at this point of the stage. 32'29'' is the time.
Raisin cames shortly after due to his fall earlier in the race. He gets a provisional second at 6 seconds of Glomser.
He is not a climber, but he's an excellent time-trailist and can beat Glomser's time. Lang takes the lead by 2 seconds.
But Lang is not the leader by much time as Pinto beats his time by 9 seconds.
Grabovski, who, as Raisin, fell earlier in the race, is 2nd at 9 seconds.
Ndbri is the new leader. 31'54'' is his time, 23 seconds better than former leader, Pinto!
But Zandio puts the bar even higher as he beats Zandio by 6 seconds.
Orozco makes a better time than his teammate. 31'32'', 14 seconds better.
Ribeiro, passing his teammate Belda, beats former leader's time by 48 seconds! 30'43'' is the reference time.
Another Benfica rider, Terciado, does a great time. Only 8 seconds worse than Ribeiro.
Provisional 3rd for Vasquez, at 33''.
Stetina, 4th, 39 seconds behind.
Lewis gets 5th, one second slower than Stetina.
Bjelkmark is 7th, so far, losing 48 seconds for stage leader, Ribeiro.
Moreno is 3rd at the line at 17''. All podium places belong to Benfica!
Valjavec manages to pass Hoffman in the last kilometer, but that doesn't mean that he is making a great time. 4th, at 27 seconds.
Into the top 5, and Basso takes 3rd at 14 seconds, ending Benfica's entire podium.
Gutiérrez Palacios disappoints as only takes a provisional 16th at 1 minute and 14 seconds.
7th place, so far, for BMC's leader, Calzati. He lost 35 seconds to Ribeiro.
Now the race's big decisions. Ghisalberti arrives and does 18 seconds worse than Ribeiro. 5th provisional.
Lloret giving everything he has and... he manages to beat Ribeiro! 30'37 is his time. He extends his overall lead to 33 seconds over Ghisalberti.
