Tour de San Luis - Stage 7
alexkr00
The final stage of the race is here and it's an another criterium. Even though there are some hills on the route a mass sprint is expected with Andre Greipel and Max Richeze being the main favorites. Greipel has a third and a second place so far, while Richeze is looking for the stage win no.3

Six riders went away in the day's main breakaway: Page, Kusters, Allonca, Ahmed, Kilun and Wilman

Wilman was first at the top of the first climb of the day, followed by Allonca and Page, but the King of the Mountains jerseys seems to be already won by Taaramae

Allonca was first on the next climb, followed by Kusters and Page

Allonca was also first at the top of the third climb of the day, this time in front of Kusters and Kilun

On the next climb we had the same leading 3 riders, but this time it was Kusters in the first position, followed by Allonca and Kilun

Even though they had an advantage of almost 9 minutes in front of the pack, the escapes were all caught before the final categorized climb of the day. There we had some attacks from the pack and Serrano was first at the summit in front of Augustyn and Bragazzi
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0023-12.png

But the most important attack was the one made by Landaluze, a former King of the Mountains jersey wearer, who managed to get a gap on the small downhill section and maintain it on the flat section

Valjavec and Rui Costa also got away from the pack and they were trying to catch Landaluze, while in the pack the key word was unorganization

When the sprint started, Valjavec was caught by the pack, while Landaluze and Costa still had a slightly advantage, with the Benfica rider looking stronger than the Yamaha one

Inside the last kilometer, Costa took the lead from Landaluze, but Greipel was coming really fast from behind, with Richeze right behind him

But Rui Costa managed to hang on and brought the second stage win for Benfica, while behind him Greipel took the second place in front of Landaluze by only just

Rein Taaramae finished safety in the pack, retaining the title won last year, this time even winning all the 4 distinctive jerseys. He won the general classification for 1 minute and 1 second in front of Florentino Marquez and for 1 minute and 23 seconds in front of Serpa, while Richeze was only 1 point behind to spoil his party and the take the points jersey
