Tour de Pologne - Stage 5
roturn
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_1.jpg
Today it`s the queen stage of this years edition. 5 difficult climbs wait for the riders before it goes up the last climb. Here the favourites must show something. Especially after yesterdays breakaway success, they need to gain time on Ghyllebert, Noval and Vermeltfoort.

Just 6 riders form todays break.
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png Grau
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bianchi.png Gil
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Rast
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/tinkoff.png Kozontchuk
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png Opie
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png Pietropolli
So the level surely increased today. In especially Grau and Gil are strong puncheurs.
A bit behind a trio containing
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png McConvey
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png Capecchi
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Rothaus.png Schachmann
is trying to bridge the gap. But as only Rothaus is not in the first group it`s an almost impossible try. Still they hang in between both groups for a pretty long time.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_2.jpg

Vespa for Ginanni and CalGiant for race leader Ghyllebert are doing the pace behind.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_6.jpg

First KoM and although it`s 16points to take there is no fight.
1 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png Grau
2 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bianchi.png Gil
3 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/tinkoff.png Kozontchuk
4 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Rast
5 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png Opie
6 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png Pietropolli
7 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png Capecchi
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_7.jpg

Also the second cross it`s just rolling over the line. Again Grau ahead of Gil. These two do almost all the work alone while the others just try to keep their pace.
1 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bianchi.png Gil
2 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Rast
3 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png Grau
4 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png Opie
5 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/tinkoff.png Kozontchuk
6 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png Pietropolli
7 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Rothaus.png Schachmann
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_9.jpg

Finally we see some action. At the 3rd KoM the fight is finally there and Gil takes the maximum points ahead of Rast with Grau just taking 3rd.
1 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bianchi.png Gil
2 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Rast
3 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png Grau
4 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/tinkoff.png Kozontchuk
5 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png Opie
6 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png Pietropolli
7 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png Capecchi
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_11.jpg

Vespa is really increasing the pace now. With 55km left they still have 4min to the trio and 5'30 to the front group. Time to do something if they want to win the race.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_13.jpg

Meanwhile Opie and Pietropolli couldn`t follow and are within the next group now. Just 4 riders in front and still 5min with 49km to go.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_16.jpg

Next KoM and next fight. All 4 riders want the points here and it`s Rast this time being the fastest.
1 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Rast
2 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png Grau
3 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bianchi.png Gil
4 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/tinkoff.png Kozontchuk
5 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png McConvey
6 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png Opie
7 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png Capecchi
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_18.jpg

29km left and the group around Pietropollo, Capecchi and Opie is caught now.
The 4 in the front group have still 4min advance, but it`s Cal Giant`s leader Samu Sanchez now doing the work for race leader Ghyllebert. This is of course a tough piece for several helpers.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_20.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png Cyclevox is really on fire today. Konovalovas is the next to attack and already the third Cyclevox rider of the day. As 15th in the overall he is just 2'29 behind Ghyllebert but more important just a few seconds behind all the race favourites.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_22.jpg

Last KoM sprint before the finish. Grau takes the maximum points and also the KoM lead. In the peloton there have been more attacks and Kolobnev and Salerno made it next to Konovalovas to the last points.
1 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png Grau
2 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bianchi.png Gil
3 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/tinkoff.png Kozontchuk
4 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Rast
5 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png Salerno
6 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/tinkoff.png Kolobnev
7 i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png Konovalovas
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_24.jpg

The following sprint was not that contended. But therefore we saw an attack here to split the group. Kozontchuk and Gil are able to create a small gap.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_26.jpg

But all of them roll together again. The attack was not strong enough.
They should concentrate on working together actually as the peloton comes closer and closer.
4,5km and still 2min left but the final will be tough and you can lose a lot there.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_27.jpg

Cal Giant is doing everything now and does an amazing work for Ghyllebert. The gap is melting fast and it`s still Sanchez doing the most.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_29.jpg

3,5km left and the gap is down to 1'30 and here comes the big attack. Top favourite i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Vespa.png Ginanni and just i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Di Maggio follows immediately.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_31.jpg

They pass the group, which seems to be totally exhausted now. Ginanni still got a small gap to Di Maggio but you can also see the Bianchi duo Cobo/Claeys ahead of the peloton now.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_33.jpg

It`s a strong move by the German team. They surely had the strongest team here but also a lot of bad luck. So at least Claeys seems to be in the fight for the overall win, while Monfort obviously waits in the pack to have another option.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_34.jpg

More attacks now.
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Kessler
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/proximus.png Ben Nasser
and surprising also i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/siemens.png Noval and
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/calgiant.png Ghyllebert.
Last two really fight hard to keep a chance for a good overall spot.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_36.jpg

But it was all too late to catch Ginanni. The Italian was a class for himself and wins todays stage.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_38.jpg

42s later Di Maggio wins the sprint against Claeys. Obviously these 3 are the best puncheur in the field.
Cobo with a strong ride today arrives 10s later, but he already lost his overall ambitions earlier.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_39.jpg

Kessler, Ben Nasser and Monfort all lose a bit more than one minute.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/mg_pologne_5_40.jpg

Froome, Sanchez and Gil complete the top10 1´30 behind. Big result for Bianchi with 4 riders in the top10 today.
CalGiant might be a bit disappointed as Sanchez was super strong today but due to his long work he might have suffered in the end.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_5_41.jpg

With Noval losing 2'02 today and Ghyllebert ~30s more this also means that Ginanni is the new race leader with these two following closely.
