Tour de Pologne - Stage 3
roturn
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_3_26.jpg
Coming to the 3rd stage and again the sprinters might get their chance. It`s a bit wavy but actually it looks harder than it really is.

11 riders in the breakaway. Once again quite a big group.
Matthews (Oz), Li (Team VW), Velits (Rothaus), Reijnen (Cal Giant), Le Gac, Bar (Puma), Longo Borghini (Ferrari), Van der Sande (UniCredit), Barta (Trilux), Cohen (Proximus) and Ligthart (Koppert).
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_3_27.jpg

Cyclevox seems to be unhappy with not being in the breakaway and so two riders are sent to the front doing the pace next to Venchi for race leader Corioni. But it`s still quite slow.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_3_28.jpg

Lots of competition at the first sprint. Matthews ahead of Li and Velits.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_3_29.jpg

Bad luck for Ferrari. Longo Borghini, their man in the group crashes in a wet corner 87km to the finish. Good to know for the favourites as the circuit is very dangerous. It`s not just raining, it`s also very windy today. Difficult situation.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_3_30.jpg

But the Italian is doing great joining the break after a 20km solo. But he also spent a lot of energy now.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_3_32.jpg

Coming to the final part it`s Saab again doing a lot behind. As pure sprinter team they need Chicchi to find his form fast.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_3_34.jpg

Second sprint of the day and it`s Velits this time ahead of Li and Reijnen taking the points.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_3_35.jpg

Just like yesterday we see Gatis Smukulis being offensive. He attacks with 27km to go. The breakaway is still a bit ahead but it`s not looking good for them today.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_3_36.jpg

And different to yesterday the sprinter teams don`t let him go. After some kilometers he is back in the field again.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_3_38.jpg

Ouch. There it happened. Bad crash in another wet corner. Within the victims are bigger names like Kirjienka, Visconti, Bosisio again and the Bianchi duo Cobo and Gil. Bad news for Bianchi in especially. But with De la Fuente, Monfort and Claeys they still have excellent riders in front.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_3_39.jpg

Smukulis uses this situation for another attack. He really wants to win a stage here.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_3_45.jpg

But just like the former breakaway he is caught with 6,6km to go. Good news for the sprinters. Bad news for the crash victims, who are some minutes behind.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_3_46.jpg

Rapha with a good train today for Kennaugh, while Saab is a bit boxed in on the right with Borrajo and Corioni behind.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_3_48.jpg

But with these heavy wind conditions it was obviously better to wait behind. So Rapha had no chance against the others and a bit surprisingly UniCredit`s Borrajo wins the 3rd stage here.
Corioni and Cooke follow on the podium, while Kennaugh must be happy with the 4th. Chicchi as 6th couldn`t complete the team`s work once again.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_3_49.jpg

Borrajo can`t believe his luck and celebrates a great victory.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Pologne/mg_pologne_3_50.jpg

Due to the wind some riders lost contact on the last lap, when the pace was increased once more again. Within these one favourite. Yesterdays offensive rider De la Fuente gained a small advantage just to lose this one one day later again. Same for Van der Velde and Sagan.
The group around Cobo was even more than 5min behind. So from 5 it`s down to 2 with Monfort and Claeys for Team Bianchi.
