Paris-Nice - Stage 7
alexkr00
With the seventh stage we are back to the hilly terrain. The main favorites for the stage win are Schleck, Gesink and Sinkewitz but neither of them showed anything so far, while in the battle for the yellow jersey, Pluchin and Popovych need around 1 minute to take the jersey from Sella

On the first from the 10th categorized climbs of the day, Levarlet was leading the race in front of a big group of riders, who also had attacked from the pack
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0003-38.png

At the first intermediate sprint of the day, the situation in front was completely different, with Le Mevel in the first position, quickly followed by a new group of attackers
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0004-35.png

On the second climb of the day, Le Mevel was caught and first at the top was Levarlet in front of Velits and Pauwels
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0005-25.png

On the downhill all the group of attackers merged and we had a group of 13 riders in front: Pauriol, Levarlet, Pires, Criel, Bileka, Velits, Maillet, Summerhill, Morizot, Jeannesson and Mourey
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0011-23.png

At the 3rd summit of the day, Criel was in front in front of Morizot and Pauriol
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0012-16.png

On the next climb, the Belgian from Starbucks attacked again and he was first at the top, this time in front of Levarlet and Jeannesson
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0017-19.png

On the fifth climb of the day, Criel was only third, with Morizot first and Maillet second
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0022-16.png

But Criel took his revenge on the next climb where he was first in front of Criel and Summerhill
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0027-14.png

Then, on the seventh climb, he was again third after Pauriol and Summerhill
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0028-12.png

No one of the escapes was interested in the intermediate sprint and Velits took it in front of Levarlet and Pires
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0033-13.png

Velits was also first at the top of the hardest climb of the day, in front of Levarlet and Pires
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0040-3.png

On the last climb before the final uphill section, Jeannesson was first in front of Levarlet and Velits, while Criel missed the polka dot jersey for 4 points
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0041-9.png

On the downhill section most of the escapes were caught but 3 of them kept an advantage of 1 minute in front of the pack. Levarlet, Jeannesson and Velits were leading the race with just 10 kilometers left from the stage
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0045-11.png

But there were some important things happening in the pack as well. Not good things though as one of the favorites for today's stage and 14th overall, Sinkewitz, crashed and had no chance to get back in the pack
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0048-2.png

With just 5 kilometers left, the leaders still had 30 seconds in front of the pack but Jeanneson was about to lose the contact with the other 2 escapes
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0050-11.png

Right after the five kilometers banner, the big names attacked from the pack and the escapes were soon caught by Ardila, with Henao Montoya also coming really fast
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0055-2.png

On the first slopes of the final hill, Ardila, Velits and Henao Montoya were in the lead, while Levarlet was already caught by the other attackers
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0061-4.png

Inside the final kilometer only Henao Montoya was able to keep it up with Ardila, but he didn't seem strong enough to be a real threat for the Colombian rider
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0065-6.png

They were caught by the chasing group in the final meters, but Mauricio Ardila wins the 7th stage in Paris - Nice for Festina, in front of Henao Montoya and Gomez Marchante. Efimkin, Marzano and Van Garderen were the other riders that finished in the leading group and got the same time as Ardila
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0070-7.png

Velits finished 7th, being the highest placed rider from the breakaway group in the this 7th stage
i822.photobucket.com/albums/zz142/alexkr_cofidis/PCM0076-3.png

Sella lost 30 seconds, finishing 8th, but he consolidated his lead by winning 4 seconds in front of Popovych, Schleck and Rodriguez Oliver, who won some other 8 seconds over the pack, while Sinkewitz lost almost 3 minutes to Ardila today
