The final stage of the race is a short, 64 kilometre criterium around Melbourne. The race is far from over though. Plenty of questions still need to be answered. Which of the sprinters will have the last laugh? Could an attacker surprise us with a last-day victory? Who will take the tight GC?
As mentioned, the GC is a very close affair and could come down to bonus seconds today. With no intermediate sprints, they will only be on offer at the finish meaning big sprinter Cavendish will need to finish on the podium to overtake Zabriskie and GC leader Rogers. Trying to stop him will be all the other big sprinters here, the biggest of which are probably Napolitano and Haussler.
Soon enough the race begins, and an eight-man breakaway goes up the road. With no sprints today, they'll have to be satisfied with some camera time and a very small shot at a surprise victory. The eight are Masuda, Gate, Hnik, La Lavandier, Breen, Hugentobler, Nishitani and Di Gregorio. Lots of riders who have been attackers on earlier stages there.
As expected though, the sprinters' teams regulate the gap all day and keep them at an arms length with today's stage being so short.
With 4 kilometres left everything is back together in the peloton, and it's time for the fifth and final sprint of the race.
Hollister and Evian both set up trains today, for their leaders Davis and Napolitano. Meanwhile, in the GC battle Cavendish isn't ideally placed, being marked by Rogers a bit further back.
Sonnery Dempster Manarelli Chamorro Napolitano Davis Feillu Richeze Kupfernagel Haussler Guarnieri Cavendish
As the race nears the finish the situation has changed, with Hollister's train failing and Richeze moving forward to lead out Guarnieri on the left. Cavendish has also moved forward into his wheel and is well positioned now along with Feillu.
Manarelli meanwhile is the first to begin his sprint, leading out Napolitano.
Richeze puts in a stunning leadout then, moving forward and forcing Napolitano into an early sprint!
Into the final kilometre, Napolitano has moved into the lead but is tiring already after having to face the wind head on. Richeze is another rider fading, leaving Guarnieri and Cavendish needing to speed up quickly or the others coming on the right will be gone.
With 500 metres left Feillu kicks, after benefiting from Napolitano's unintentional leadout and the Belgian is now perfectly positioned. Haussler is coming fast in the centre though, along with Davis and Kupfernagel!
Nearing the line Feillu manages to pull out a couple of metres...
Which is enough to take victory! Feillu salvages something for BPost here Down Under, maybe giving them an edge in their battle for promotion. He found the right wheels and sprinted well to take a great win.
Haussler manages to take second in the end, keeping up his good form here which also takes him into 6th overall and into the points jersey lead! Davis is just third ahead of a tired Napolitano, while Kupfernagel rounds off the top five.
Guarnieri is 6th, just beating Cavendish who has to settle for 7th. Crucially this means he loses his points jersey to Haussler...
It also means that the Brit doesn't pick up any bonus seconds today, which ensures he doesn't overtake anyone in the GC. That confirms that Rogers takes the race victory by just 1 second to Zabriskie, which could be crucial in the relegation fight!
As mentioned Haussler takes the points competiton, while Gerrans wins the King of the Mountains. Ford takes the U25 competition, Oz's third! They couldn't take the teams competition though, which ING won.
