Stage Favourites:
Geschke, Haas, Nikolaev, Mendes & Cardoso
It could go to the sprinters. It go to a puncheur. The final kilometre is slightly uphill. Needless to say in such a stage Geschke is the favourite.
The two man break:
- Bush
- Sørensen
Reis also made the early break, however, dropped back, very early on, after picking up some intermediate points.
Sørensen would take the max KOM points on offer and would be riding in a jersey tomorrow.
His teammate Wengelin would sprint out of the peloton for the minor points on a visible day for Team Carlsberg - Danske Bank.
Plenty of interest sees the break caught with 44 KM to go, today. An intermediate sprint still to come.
An omen for things to come?
Results of intermediate sprint with 30 KM to go:
- Gullen - 6 points/6 seconds
- Matthews - 4 points/4 seconds
- Forero - 2 points/2 seconds
Following this intermediate sprint win for the Costa Rican, there is no more action to note until the final beckons.
The sprint is on.

An uphill finish awaits. Mendes, doesn't wait, launches early.
However, the Portuguese rider went to early and starts to go backwards. Saramotins, Geschke and Kohler become the most prominent on the road.
..........
Stage win Evonik - Signal Iduna! The race favourite delivers and will don the yellow jersey after a stellar lead-out. Saramotins was narrowly outsprinted by Kohler, but still manages to round out the podium.
Vingerling & Fonseca each put in another consistent finish to round out the top 5. With no one dropped everyone remains in contention for the GC.
