Vuelta al Tachira - Stage 8

This flat classified stage should be interesting as each 10km lap ends in a 6% climb to the line. If Lorenzetto wasnt partly injured, this stage would be perfect for him.

5 men broke clear: Abdallah (Gatorade B ), Barton (Fed-Ex B ), Cummings (Wigle), Martins (Benfica) and Wolf (Slipstream B )

Dyadichkin (Dasani) and Caldwell (Slipstream) made their attacks a little bit later and are in pursuit of these 5 riders, slowly catching them.

It does not take long for the lead 5, to become 3 - as Abdallah and Wolf are dropped.

But 1 and a half laps later, the group is up to 7 as the work of Dyadichkin and Caldwell brings Wolf and Abdallah back to the lead group.

As the race goes on, 7 drops down to 4: Barton, Cummings, Caldwell and Dyadichkin. There is a good chance that the break could be successful, which would make Dyadichkin favourite for the win due to his sprint stat.

But Cummings is the best hilly rider in the group and as they cross the line signifying 2 laps (20km) to go, Cummings rides away from the other 3!

Its looking very goood for the brit, who builds a minutes lead over the next lap, putting him in a strong position as the final lap begins.

Nobody is really sure who should lead the chase in the peleton, and they are only coming close to Dyadichkin, Caldwell and Barton as the sprint begins.

This means Steven Cummings has plenty of time to celebrate as he wins the stage!

Dyadichkin looks to have 2nd place but must settle for 3rd as the charge from the peleton is led by Cuban Damian Martinez, who takes 2nd place - wondering what could have been if his team had helped White Bear Steyr with the chase.

There came a bit of controversy as the stage results were posted though, as the race organisers had decided that Saul Raisin (19th on the stage), had finished 38 seconds ahead of Mikel Astarloza (20th on the stage). If you look on the picture above, Raisin is in the white top and blue shorts, to the left of the 3 Benfica riders and while there is a slight gap behind them, it looked to me that they should have all been allocated the same time at the finish.
The organisers would not budge their opinion though, so Raisin and Jose Chacon (Who finished 11th, taking over the points jersey) move closer to the overall lead of Tom Danielson.
