Vuelta al Tachira - Stage 12
SportingNonsense
This move gets nowhere though, Rodas keeps in touch with Alarcon, as Lloret looks to go on the counterattack

All this attacking must surely be bad for Carrara?

Nope.

Lead up to 1 minute!

Carrara is hardly safe though. Lloret's move has already reduced that back to 45 seconds - and thats Alarcon in pursuit!!! Lloret with a small gap on Alarcon, Paulinho, Niemiec and Duenas, another gap to the peloton.

Descent time

Castano also gets his way across, but with 5km to go, CSC and Ratiy have chased it down

Onto the climb for 1 last time, a ~7% gradient that Carrara has come to enjoy today.

Lead up to 1'25.

2km to go.

Txurruka leads the peloton round the turn, onto the climb. Plenty of Pirelli presence.

Alarcon is behind a CSC rider, Rodas is behind an Aker rider. What chance one of them falls over to block the rival?

Lloret attacks again! We've not seen much of Nazaret or Parra Bustamente today, and Lloret wants that 5th place.

The ever aggressive Niemiec follows.

AND ALARCON.

Paulinho too.

Alarcon is right up there with Lloret, Niemiec and Paulinho.

We see Castano.

Eastman.

Duenas.

Ratiy.

And then Rodas, he's struggling to react to Alarcon!

Manuel Lloret is 3rd. 5th place in GC secured for him.

Jose Alarcon has won the Vuelta al Tachira!

Castano 4th, Paulinho 5th and Niemiec 6th.

Then a bit of a gap - there may well be more than just time bonuses awarded out here.

Txurruka 7th. WWE really trying to gain on Emu for the teams classification.

Eastman, Nazaret, Kessiakoff, Ratiy and here's Rodas. So so close for him, but he loses the race.

i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/tachiras12-34.jpg

2nd overall is still a fine achivement for him!

Finishing next is an interesting battle for avoiding last in GC. Control team rider gained 22 seconds on VW's Kevin Predatsch - who has already been almost last in the MTN classic - to move 7 seconds ahead of him in GC. Today, they finish side by side, Palencia fighting hard having been dropped first.
i241.photobucket.com/albums/ff272/SportingNonsense2/tachiras12-35.jpg

But last in GC for neither of them. Rohan Dennis was last on yesterdays stage, and is 5 and a half minutes later, to drop into the Lanterne Rouge placing. Nobody may care about this, but avoiding last place is always a fun mission as the control team!
