A mostly uphill 10 km long time trial shouldn't - in theory - change all that much, but on the other hand, pretty much all riders are tired by now. Delgado's the favourite, according to PCM, followed by Quintero and Astarloza.

The first rider to set a reasonable time was Mercado. Having worked for Delgado, he hasn't been able to deliver any results himself, but obviously, this time trial was his chance. When he crossed the finish line, he had been 19 seconds faster than number 2, Aramendia.

Behind him, the top 10 had already begun, and it didn't take long for Astarloza to break his 'record' on the 1st intermediate check. It turned out to be a pretty good time as the stage favourite Delgado missed out by 1 second.

In front of them, Schwab confirmed his excellent form by finishing 2nd, 17 seconds after Mercado.

After Schwab came Ribeiro who had been even better - but both of them couldn't 'handle' Astarloza who took the best time of the day, beating Mercado's time by 5 seconds and Ribeiro's by 17 secs.

He shouldn't feel too safe, though. Delgado was just 1 second slower than him on the 1st intermediate check - and it didn't seem like he was going to win overall, making the stage victory the only possible success of the day. On the time check, he was 9 seconds ahead of Quintero and 10 ahead of Colorado.

Passing the line, it turned out that Delgado hadn't managed to take the one (or two) seconds that he missed on Astarloza. Shortly after, Colorado finished the stage, 16 seconds behind Delgado. And lastly - the likely winner of Vuelta al Tachira, Mr. Ochoa Quintero - 19 seconds after Delgado.
