Florentino Marquez has laid down the marker, its now up to everyone else to try and beat him.
6 riders attack but only 3 make the front group: Fajt, China and Galparsoro. Kinney, Li and Rijntjes are just left in no-mans land.
Despite not attacking for KoM points yesterday, China surprisingly does so today. Galparsoro must settle for 2nd, but thats enough to retake the jersey
The steepest climb of the day comes soon after, but it is unclassified
China is again victorious on the 2nd climb of the day
And as we start on the 19km up to the summit, Tschopp has worked himself a small gap over the peleton
Surprise at the back. Valjavec is dropped, not sure why, he shouldnt be injured.
Up front, Galparsoro has attacked away from the other 2
And Mercado attacks the peleton, moving past Tschopp who is caught
Weening and Medina look to counter him
Weening doesnt manage it, but another rider does - it's Marquez!
Its almost too easy as the Spaniard moves into the lead
Mercado isnt ready to give in though, pressing on after him
No sooner is Medina caught by the peleton, he is off again with Vasquez on his wheel
Tschopp, Weening, Gonzalo, Stubbe and then Petrov also go
Petrov catches and passed Medina but the lead 3 are some way ahead of him, with Vasquez trying to catch Mercado who is trying to catch Marquez
But it really doesnt like Marquez is going to be caught
Vasquez is able to climb up to Mercado though
And perhaps Mercado pushed to hard to catch Marquez, as he now is unable to hold Vasquez' wheel
Marquez has entered the final kilometre
And its another dominant victory for him!
Vasquez takes 2nd, just under a minute back, as Mercado must settle for 3rd
Petrov pushed hard for 4th, perhaps wishing he had attacked sooner
Weening outsprints Stubbe for 5th, both having left Medina behind, but today it seems that the top 4 riders have now asserted themselves as the best 4 in the tour.
