Vuelta a Espana - Stage 12
CountArach
i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-1.jpg

Finally we get to the second of the serious mountain stages in this race. Our current race leader i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/std_zpsb6c2f350.png Tenorio won there last time and will be hoping for a repeat today. But where Sierra Nevada was long and not particularly steep, this is the opposite – it is only 5.1km long but it averages 8% and has a long section which is just a touch under 10%. The stage is only 113km long, however, so the riders may not be particularly tired by the end of it.

We start today with a category 3 climb – the Collado de Foradada. This clearly inspires some of the second and third tier climbers as our first attack is from i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Dmirtri Medvedev.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-2.jpg

With the climb lots of others are keen to get away. Other attackers are:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Tom Diggle
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pen_zpsd6e38272.png Philip Deignan
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pearl.png Jocelin Maillet
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Wilco Kelderman (28 mountain points)
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/lot_zps2971ec30.png Moises Dueñas (+12’15”)
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Daniel Teklehaimanot
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/srl_zps5f456879.png Amael Moinard
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Thomas Peterson
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Jonathon Castroviejo
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/kng_zpsafcfbe9d.png Max Oste-MacDonald

Remarkably the peloton allows this group of 11 to go away. The last two form a chase group behind the other 9. It contains a number of solid climbers who could be dangerous for the stage win here. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pen_zpsd6e38272.png Deignan leads them over the top – i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Kelderman couldn’t attack as he only joined the first attackers right at the summit. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pearl.png Maillet is second and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Medvedev is third.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-3.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Kelderman is unhappy with the size of the group and he tries to attack away. The other riders are happy enough to work together though and they do bring him back. But no attention is on this as we receive news that the peloton have split over the top!

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-4.jpg

43 riders go clear and a 2 minute gap goes out. Some riders drop back because it seems some leaders have missed this early split. But who is here? Let’s have a look:

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/std_zpsb6c2f350.png Tenorio, Valls, Lopez Garcia, Veloso, Ortega, Rienda Segura, Hernandez Gutierrez, Serrano
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pearl.png Machado, Panayotov, Samoilev, Morizot
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/mil_zpsb1abc362.png Kulhavy, Kratochvila, Howard
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/bac_zps18a68956.png Ricco, Terciado
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Sanchez, Vanendert
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/kng_zpsafcfbe9d.png Valverde, van der Hugenhaben
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Nerz, Schwab
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/ubs_zpsaf43a720.png Tschopp, Santaromita
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Rujano, Kern
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Guldhammer, Klemme
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/fes_zpsd43e76fa.png Contador
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Bibby
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Scarponi

The gap starts to go out to 2 minutes to the second peloton. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/std_zpsb6c2f350.png Santander obviously do most of the work up the front but they receive some help from i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Kern and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Klemme.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-5.jpg

The break goes through the sprint point with 88km to go and they have only 46” over the first peloton. Clearly the pace is high. But the gap that people really want to know is the gap to the second bunch... which is at 1’56”! The chase is looking organised with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/prp_zps2240497e.png Prio-Porto doing a lot of work, with i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Vesuvio, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/mil_zpsb1abc362.png Milka and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pen_zpsd6e38272.png Pendleton’s also pitching in.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-6.jpg

Up front they realise that this is quite a sizable gap and more teams start to pitch in with the few domestiques here. And it isn’t just the domestiques working either – the early break are in fact pulled in by none other than i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/kng_zpsafcfbe9d.png Valverde.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-7.jpg

The gap between the two bunches is now at 1’36” but closing that down is proving difficult. Regardless, three of the riders who were in the earlier move attack away again, determined to make something of today. They are:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/lot_zps2971ec30.png Moises Dueñas
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Dmirtri Medvedev
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pen_zpsd6e38272.png Philip Deignan

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-8.jpg

But with 75km remaining on this stage, almost half way through, the two main groups come together – i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/ubs_zpsaf43a720.png Girardi put in the final pull that managed to do it. So no favourites are going to lose time on that basis alone.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-9.jpg

What this whole chase did cause, however, was a group of 10 domestiques to fall off the back of the second pack. They are a long way back already and may have to start worrying about the time limit. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/fes_zpsd43e76fa.png Sinner, the lead-out for i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/fes_zpsd43e76fa.png Guerao is the biggest name in there.

We approach the 2nd category climb now. It is an odd climb in that it comes in two distinct parts - the first is about 6km long and averages around 6%, then there is a few kilometres of false flat and finally we get a 4km 5% climb to the finish. There are also some foothills before it all starts. In fact on the final little hill before this we get an attack from the peloton! Three riders shoot away:
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Martin Hacecky (19th)
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/kng_zpsafcfbe9d.png Alejandro Valverde (21st)
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Dominik Nerz (11th)

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-10.jpg

These 3 have a gap of 4’30” to cross if they want to get to the three leading riders. They start to come across the gap at a fair pace, so more riders decide to try their luck on the first part of the next climb:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Ian Bibby
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/mil_zpsb1abc362.png Yevgeni Nepomnyachsniy
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Tyler Brandt
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Fabio Duarte (18th)

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-11.jpg

However, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/fes_zpsd43e76fa.png Rolland is on the case and he stops this attack from getting away. His chasing in fact sets a high enough pace that a 40 man autobus forms behind the bunch.

We hit the false flat and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Paolo Scarponi now puts in an attack. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Bibby decides to follow him. These two get a small gap together before i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/mil_zpsb1abc362.png Nepomnyachsniy decides to launch his own effort.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-12.jpg

As i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/lot_zps2971ec30.png Dueñas leads us over this summit we have the following situation:

44”1’12”42”18”2’56”
Break (3)--->Gr. Valverde (3)--->Gr. Bibby (2)--->Nepom.--->P (131)

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-13.jpg

We now have a technical descent where there are a few things of interest. The first thing is i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/mil_zpsb1abc362.png Nepomnyachsniy being caught by the bunch and a second thing is i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/bac_zps18a68956.png Grabovski falling off his bike. In addition i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Bibby and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Scarponi catch the group of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/kng_zpsafcfbe9d.png Valverde, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Hacecky and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Nerz to create a chase group of five. They are 43” behind the leaders and 1’20” ahead of the peloton.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-15.jpg

It is now, as we enter the steady rise that takes us to the climb itself that we get our first big attack from a favourite – i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pearl.png Tiago Machado launches an attack! He sits 4th overall 2’09” down on our leader.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-16.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pearl.png Machado sets an incredible pace on this slope and almost as soon as the chase group catch our leaders, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pearl.png Machado does too! So now we have 9 riders with a lead of about 1’40” on the bunch.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-17.jpg

With the 4th place i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pearl.png Machado going up the road some of the other favourites see that they have to take matters into their own hands and so they attack away. 3rd placed i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/fes_zpsd43e76fa.png Contador leads the attack and he is followed by:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/mil_zpsb1abc362.png Uran (8th)
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/std_zpsb6c2f350.png Tenorio (1st)
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pen_zpsd6e38272.png Martin (10th)

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-18.jpg

That’s really going to change the dynamics of the race! With the race leader going up the road i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/std_zpsb6c2f350.png Santander aren’t going to contribute to the chase anymore. Seeing this several more favourites go now:
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Schleck (6th)
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wikipedia.png Denifl (5th)
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Sanchez (7th)
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/ubs_zpsaf43a720.png Nibali (2nd)
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/prp_zps2240497e.png Plaza (12th)
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/kng_zpsafcfbe9d.png Van der Hugenhaben (14th)
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Guldhammer (15th)

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-19.jpg

We now hit a bit of a false flat and the chase behind starts to get organised. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/bac_zps18a68956.png Bacardi are doing the bulk of the work for 9th overall i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/bac_zps18a68956.png Ricco. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Pokerstars for i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Rujano (17th) and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Heineken for i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Eastman (20th) are also contributing riders to this.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-20.jpg

With 8km remaining the group of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/std_zpsb6c2f350.png Tenorio catches up to the break. They have 39” on the other favourites and then another 36” back to the peloton, which is now reduced to 75 riders. The chase clearly isn’t quite working as well as they could be so i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Rujano and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/bac_zps18a68956.png Ricco work together now to attack away. They quickly join the chase group.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-21.jpg

Some of the riders up front are getting a bit twitchy. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/lot_zps2971ec30.png Duenas attacks and he is followed by i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pearl.png Machado, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Medvedev and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/fes_zpsd43e76fa.png Contador.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-22.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/mil_zpsb1abc362.png Uran controls this attack, stretching out this lead group in the process. There is now a 40” gap back to the second group on the road. Not wanting to be caught out again, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/bac_zps18a68956.png Ricco puts in an attack, looking to shut things down.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-23.jpg

With 5km remaining and the climb truly under way i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/fes_zpsd43e76fa.png Contador puts in an attack. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pearl.png Machado follows him. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/mil_zpsb1abc362.png Uran sits on the front of the group but he can’t quite shut them down through a section which has a gradient of over 9%.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-24.jpg

Just as Ricco catchers up to this lead group, Rujano and Nibali work together to ensure that the chase group also comes up. This makes a leading group of 20 including most of the favourites which is just 10” behind i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/fes_zpsd43e76fa.png Contador and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pearl.png Machado. Through this gradient, however, the group is looking incredibly stretched.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-25.jpg

And all of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/mil_zpsb1abc362.png Uran’s pressure does succeed in pulling 5 riders clear. Himself, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/std_zpsb6c2f350.png Tenorio, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pen_zpsd6e38272.png Martin, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/kng_zpsafcfbe9d.png Valverde and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Medvedev get a gap on the rest of the group. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Medvedev drops back when he realises that his leader i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Schleck hasn’t made the cut.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-26.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wikipedia.png Denifl, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/ubs_zpsaf43a720.png Nibali and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/bac_zps18a68956.png Ricco all set off in pursuit and this increase in pace succeeds in dropping off several riders who were in this group:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/kng_zpsafcfbe9d.png Van der Hugenhaben
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Nerz
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Hacecky
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Bibby

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-27.jpg

Around the next bend we get four more riders dropping:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pen_zpsd6e38272.png Deignan
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/prp_zps2240497e.png Plaza
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/lot_zps2971ec30.png Duenas
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Scarponi

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-28.jpg

So with 2km to the line we have the following situation:

9"18"14"

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/std_zpsb6c2f350.png Tenorio now leads his group up and succeeds in catching the two leaders. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/ubs_zpsaf43a720.png Nibali, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/bac_zps18a68956.png Ricco

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-30.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wikipedia.png Denifl is the next one after that, giving us 10 leaders now. Surprisingly i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Rujano also gets away from the group of i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Schleck and now joins the leaders.

But remarkably i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Schleck now succeeds in pulling his group up to the leaders just under the kite. We may not get any gaps at all today!

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-31.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/mil_zpsb1abc362.png Uran is at the very front of the sprint, with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pen_zpsd6e38272.png Martin just behind him. The Irishman could be in for a great win here!

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-32.jpg

But what’s this? i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Schleck, along with i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Guldhammer and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Sanchez, have been dropped again as soon as the sprint opened up.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-33.jpg

But up front i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/std_zpsb6c2f350.png Tenorio and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/mil_zpsb1abc362.png Machado are sprinting very well!

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-34.jpg

And i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/std_zpsb6c2f350.png Justo Tenorio wins it! What a show of dominance in a veryy unpredictable stage.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-35.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/fes_zpsd43e76fa.png Contador takes a strong second, and he will like the bonus seconds to close the gap to i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/ubs_zpsaf43a720.png Nibali. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/mil_zpsb1abc362.png Uran also claims some bonus seconds with his third place. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pearl.png Machado holds enough speed here for fourth. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/ubs_zpsaf43a720.png Nibali is fifth ahead of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pen_zpsd6e38272.png Martin, who will probably just be happy to have finished in this group. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/kng_zpsafcfbe9d.png Valverde claws some time back with his seventh. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Rujano’s late effort to get into this group proves important as he finishes eighth. Meanwhile i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wikipedia.png Denifl and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/bac_zps18a68956.png Ricco round out this group and indeed the top 10.

46” later the group of i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Schleck comes in. That’s going to have quite an impact on the structure of the top 10.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-36.jpg

And on a final note, of the 11 riders who were dropped early in the stage, 7 of them have been eliminated for missing the time cut. They are:

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/V12-37.jpg

So looking at the GC now, things are fairly steady. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Schleck drops from 6th to 9th, while i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Sanchez drops from 7th to 10th. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/mil_zpsb1abc362.png Uran takes 6th, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/bac_zps18a68956.png Ricco 7th and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pen_zpsd6e38272.png Martin will be pleasantly surprised with his current 8th. Lower down the order we have moves up most notably from i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Guldhammer (15th to 11th) and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Rujano (17th to 15th). i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Nerz is the biggest loser today dropping from 11th to 16th.
