Some would call this a typical day in the Vuelta – a slightly bump course all day before a short wall which should decide the stage. That wall today is the Vejer de la Frontera. It is 2.4km in length and averages 6.6%, while maxing out at just under 10%. The whole stage is a fairly long 197km and does have some minor difficulties along the way, most of them uncategorised.

The attacking is started by i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Christophe Kern. He is a rather good climber and it seems that will set the standard for the other early attackers.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-2.jpg

There are a number of waves of early attackers, and the names trying to get away this morning are:
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pearl.png Petar Panayotov
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/mil_zpsb1abc362.png Jaroslav Kulhavy
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/akm_zps175d5d7c.png Artem Topchanuk
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Jonathon Castroviejo
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Michal Kwiatkowski
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Paolo Scarponi
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Valerio Agnoli
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/prp_zps2240497e.png Nelson Oliveira
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Fabio Felline
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pen_zpsd6e38272.png Philip Deignan
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Tyler Brandt
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Fabio Duarte
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Chiaffredo Grippo
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/ubs_zpsaf43a720.png Simon Zahner
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Arnold Jeannesson
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Johannes Heider
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/lot_zps2971ec30.png Moises Dueñas
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wikipedia.png Mikel Landa

There are a lot of really interesting names here, most notably i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pearl.png Panayotov, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Scarponi and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Duarte, all of whom could be aiming for decent GC positions overall. However, through these attacks order is kept primarily by i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Matea Kvasina and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/std_zpsb6c2f350.png Sergio Ortega, with the later particularly notable for his hard work at this point.

Eventually a group does get away though and most of the riders in it haven’t attacked thus far:
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Valerio Agnoli
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Ryan Eastman
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Dominique Nerz
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Chiaffredo Grippo
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Bassirou Konte
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pearl.png Florian Morizot
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/prp_zps2240497e.png Andre Vital

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-3.jpg

So this would be a normal break in most races but i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Eastman sticks out like a sore thumb. Why is he here? Either he lacks any faith in his ability to hold on to the lead group on the final hill (which is probably his biggest weakness as a GC rider) or he is looking for the time bonuses from the two sprint points out on course. Regardless, he is 43rd overall, 21” down on GC, and that means that those bonus seconds wouldn’t be enough for him to overtake i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Joost Posthuma’s overall lead.

So we come to the first of those two sprint points and it is remarkably close. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Eastman looks really strong but at the last second i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Konte comes around him to take the 6”, leaving i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Eastman with only 4”. So if that was his plan it is already coming apart. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/prp_zps2240497e.png Vital takes third place and the gap over the peloton is out to 6’37”.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-4.jpg

Another possibility for today is that i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Eastman is chasing after the mountain jersey in this race. There are 6 points on offer at the mid-stage climb and the same at the end of the stage and the race judges have ruled that whoever takes the first points will wear the jersey overnight. Indeed i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Eastman fights for these points hard but once again he is pipped to the line by i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Konte, who will surely be incredibly happy to be one of the first Africans to make their mark on this race. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Grippo is third this time. The pace in the peloton has clearly been increased because with 66km to go the gap is at 3’42”.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-5.jpg

As mentioned at the start the stage is constantly rolling up-and-down all day and that results in some really tired legs. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Project 1t4i have a fairly good classics team here and so as they push a hard pace over the uncategorised climbs it is only a matter of time before a group is shelled out the back. And indeed a group of 24 riders goes out.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-6.jpg

There are no important GC riders here, mostly domestiques and sprinters, but it shows just how high the pace is today. However, it is the next group of 7 to drop which is far more interesting. It includes the following names:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Mattia Cattaneo
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Thomas Peterson
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Mattia Pozzo
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pearl.png Jackson Rodriguez

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-7.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Mattia Cattaneo in particular may surprise some. He has already been hailed as the next Cunego by some, but if he rides like this throughout the rest of his career then he is going to struggle to even be remotely competitive in a Grand Tour.

Up front they are at the second sprint point and this is even closer than the first, with the riders fanned across the road almost in a line. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Eastman is beaten to the line for the third straight time, but this time it is i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Grippo who beats him. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Agnoli is third. The hard work of the break seems to be coming to nought, however, as their lead is only at 1’29” ahead of the 130 man peloton.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-8.jpg

But with only 130 men left in the peloton that means that more riders must have been dropped! The pace of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Project 1t4i has unhitched another 30 riders and this group also has some really surprising names in it. Some of the riders here are:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/std_zpsb6c2f350.png Rafael Serrano
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/std_zpsb6c2f350.png Juan Carlos Rienda Segura
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Dmitri Medvedev
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/lot_zps2971ec30.png Jude Libert
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Marcello Pavarin
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Arnold Jeannesson
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/kng_zpsafcfbe9d.png Max Oste-MacDonald
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/std_zpsb6c2f350.png Aitor Hernández Gutierrez

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Pavarin in particular is hard to figure out. This is an idea stage for someone like him, and yet he has fallen back a long way. Perhaps he is saving himself for a breakaway later in the race? It is also worth noting the number of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/std_zpsb6c2f350.png Santander riders here, which implies that the team classification might not be the cake-walk that some would think.

With the gap to the break sitting at only a minute with 35km still to go, it is only a matter of time before they stop working well together. Having already won the KOM for today i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Konte decides that he will be the first to put in an attack. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Agnoli follows straight onto his wheel and, perhaps hoping that this attack will go all the way, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Eastman continues his baffling attack.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-9.jpg

It is i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Nerz who brings these three back to the rest of the break. But the genie has been uncorked now and so i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Grippo launches an attack. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Eastman bridges up to him, but i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Konte, showing his great strength, pulls the rest of the break up to them.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Konte and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Nerz try next but i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Eastman stops this in its tracks by bringing them back. The gap is now at 52” with 28km to go, meaning that all the attacks have kept things pretty steady. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Grippo now puts in his bid for the line.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-10.jpg

But i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Eastman appears to be in time trial mode, bringing this attack back as well. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Konte puts in a brief attack but this is all for nothing as the peloton reigns it all back in. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Wesley Kreder makes the catch, showing that his team are still very visible on the front. They have been receiving scattered assistance from some, including i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/kng_zpsafcfbe9d.png Alejandro Valverde, who perhaps did a turn because most of his team had been dropped and he wanted to toughen things up for his rivals. The bunch is now down to 109 riders, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/ubs_zpsaf43a720.png Matthias Frank being the latest high-profile rider to drop. This race has been exactly like an Ardennes classic.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-11.jpg

There is an uncategorised climb 14km from the finish line and it is here where we find out why i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/kng_zpsafcfbe9d.png Alejandro Valverde was working – he launches an attack! Following on his wheel is top Pro Continental puncheur i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Chris Froome.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-12.jpg

And now we get another odd moment in this stage – i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Luis Leon Sanchez attacks across the gap with a number of other riders on his wheel:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Jelle Vanendert
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Frank Schleck
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/lot_zps2971ec30.png Juan Jose Cobo
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Damiano Caruso

So maybe Project 1t4i weren’t working for the race leader after all, but rather the 2nd placed overall i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Sanchez? That is certainly a terrific example of playing all your cards!

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-13.jpg

This group gets a 30” gap from the bunch, and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Domenik Klemme bridges up to them, giving a lead group of eight. Of course with some of the GC names in here, particularly i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Schleck, it was always going to be risky and so i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/fes_zpsd43e76fa.png Chris Anker Sørensen brings it back for his leader i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/fes_zpsd43e76fa.png Alberto Contador.

Just as the group is about to be shut down i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Klemme attacks away again with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Caruso and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Vanendert following. Remember that particularly i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Vanendert is well-placed on GC, having lead yesterday for some time.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-14.jpg

With only 3.5km remaining and about a kilometre to the final climb i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Vanendert attacks away from this trio and he gets a gap. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Klemme follows at a distance while i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Caruso can’t see this going anywhere and he sits up.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-15.jpg

As the final climb starts i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Vanendert has a 9” gap on i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Klemme and another 20” on the 114 man peloton.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-16.jpg

The peloton gets to the second turn of the climb, just under 2km from the finish and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Ben Gastauer launches an attack, followed by i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Peter Sagan.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-17.jpg

Meanwhile up front i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Klemme pulls himself up to i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Vanendert and without even pausing for thought he attacks away.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-18.jpg

The focus changes to the helicopter camera briefly as news arrives of a crash at the back of the peloton. It includes two riders from today’s break! Those caught up in it are:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Wout Poels
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/srl_zps5f456879.png Wes Sulzberger
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Rafel Majka
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Chiaffredo Grippo
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Bassirou Konte

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-19.jpg

No time to really think about that, however. A Koenigsegg rider has attacked but it isn’t i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/kng_zpsafcfbe9d.png Alejandro Valverde this time, it is i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/kng_zpsafcfbe9d.png Robin van der Hugenhaben! He is followed by i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Damiano Caruso, who tried earlier as well.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-20.jpg

These two close the gap to i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Gastauer and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Sagan. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Vanendert has managed to pull himself up to i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Klemme and is moving fast here. It is really close between the six attackers under the kite.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-21.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Caruso is up to the lead two with 700 metres to the line. He is moving quickly and could ruin the party of these other two attackers.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-22.jpg

And he is through with 300 metres to the line!

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-23.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Damiano Caruso raises his arms in a well-earned victory salute. This is his first ever grand tour stage win and it was a memorable one to be sure!

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-24.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Jelle Vanendert holds on for second, being incredibly close to taking a memorable victory of his own. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Domenik Klemme is in third and would have also sorely loved a victory given his team’s lack of a top leader here. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Ben Gastauer is the next best of the second group of attackers, followed by i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/kng_zpsafcfbe9d.png Robin van der Hugenhaben and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Peter Sagan. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Frank Schleck leads in the rest of the pack on the same time as the winner today. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/bac_zps18a68956.png Riccardo Ricco, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Chris Froome and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/kng_zpsafcfbe9d.png Alejandro Valverde round out the top ten and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Joost Posthuma is here, keeping his jersey safe.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-25.jpg

But this isn’t the whole pack! It seems the peloton broke in half under the kite!

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-26.jpg

This second group of 40 riders comes in 2’29” behind the winner today, and it seems like some important GC riders are in here!

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/v2-27.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/cal_zpsd3e3d363.png Ryan Eastman is here after his long day in the break, clearly having used up too much energy. That will teach him a lesson. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Fabio Duarte is here, continuing his rocky season. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Jose Rujano is also here, not wholly surprising given his aversion to all but the longest climbs. But i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/mil_zpsb1abc362.png Rigoberto Uran, while not a complete surprise, was considered at least a top 5 contender before the race and now finds himself a long way down! Other riders in here include:
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pearl.png Petar Panayatov
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Martin Hacecky
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/srl_zps5f456879.png Jack Bobridge (10th overall)
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Domenik Nerz
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/ubs_zpsaf43a720.png Hubert Schwab
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pearl.png Jocelin Maillet

So not a lot of change in the current GC, even if some of the main contenders lost time today. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Bassirou Konte will be pleased to wear the mountain jersey for at least a day. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/wig_zps5dbe18f9.png Damiano Caruso will don the points jersey, though he is tied with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/pro_zpsc5cfa503.png Joost Posthuma. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PT/std_zpsb6c2f350.png Justo Tenorio keeps his hold on the young rider jersey.
