A really tough mountain stage. Lots of really steep mountains. Will Marchante's dominance continue?

And as always, the breakaway:
Roberts (CSC)
Franzoi (Lampre)
Pinotti (T-Mobile)
Deignan (AG2R)
Schröder (Milram)
Hulsman (Quickstep)

The first mountain of course splitted the group into smaller groups with Pinotti in front with Schroder and Hulsman.

Surprisingly, some of the favourites who are minutes back in classification, decided to take a risk by attacking on the very first mountain. Question is if it's a serious attempt?

The group consists of Menchov (Agricole), Cataluna (Cofidis), Serpa (Milram), Rujano (Bouygues) and Gusev (CSC)

It's only Cataluna who's serious about this, it seems. He asks the other to relay, but no one is willing to do an effort. Cataluna got to keep on working on this himself.

The group has now been caught. Instead there's a counterattack by Efimkin and Rujano for the mountain points.

With 80 km to go Cobo and Moncutié reach the leading group (Pinotti and Schroder). Behind them, Sanchez Gil and McGee are fighting to close the gap.

In the peloton, Cioni has just attacked with Pecharroman, Lopez Garcia, Valjavec and Gusev.

2nd last mountain, 40 km to go

Iban Mayo attacks and is countered by Bruseghin, Rujano, Marchante and Menchov. And here comes Pereiro along with Nozal, Oliver, Kashechkin.

Mancebo hasn't looked strong today, but with a little delay he attacks. Garate and Brajkovic tries to follow him. Right now, the situation is very confusing. Many small groups, lots of new attacks.

Signs of weakness from Marchante!! For the first time during this Vuelta. He's dropped by Mayo, Lopez Garcia and Kashechkin. Mayo is #4 in the overall classification and might be able to take the jersey.
