Vuelta a Columbia - Stage 14

The Vuelta a Columbia finishes with two flat stages which should really be nothing short of a parade for the climbers who have battled hard through 13 torturous stages. However we have seen these parades turn into disaster for a number of highly places GC riders who have crashed. Need we remind you of Jose Alarcon's nasty crashes on final stages of Malaysian stage races.

The other question is whether the sprinters have anything left and if so do any of their teams have the motivation to chase down a potential breakaway.

There is one rider who has the motivation to go for a break, Jordi Grau (Unicredit) who began the day in 31st position over 25 minutes down.

The sprinters then will have to fight for second and third at the sprint points today. Benfica's Benetez takes second in the first sprint ahead of Damian Martinez.

He would take second at the next sprint behind our lone leader, this time ahead of Red Bull's Manarelli.

Benetez perhaps has the best kick left of the sprinters

However, Benfica are not really looking to chase down stage leader Grau who builds a massive lead of 15 minutes with 50km to go. This would move the Unicredit man into the top ten on GC, this could be quite a rewarding move for their team.

At the final sprint prime, the sprinters are now resigned to the fact they are fighting for second on the stage too. At this one Manarelli takes second ahead of Benetez.

Whilst the Brazilian will not catch Van den Broeck for the points lead (the Belgian has a mammoth lead there), he could conceivably move up in the minor placings. But he will not have a chance of the stage win as Grau still has 14 minutes with 10km to go.

He does begin to fade in the finale, with the gap reducing dramatically to 10 minutes with 5km to go and just 4 or so minutes at the line. But a stage win is still very welcome for his team, who have struggled to make an impact on other stages.

Behind the sprinters somewhat tired after constantly battling for sprint primes miss out to GC men VdB, Beraud and Rodrigues who help themselves to 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively.
