This stage is the hardest of the race so far at 229km with a serious final climb, and only a small plataeu. Cunego, Ricco and Machado are favourites.
Scarponi, Frei and Barton lead over the first climb.
Ortega, Maillet, Calzati and Oste-Macdonald join them on the descent.
Barton, Ortega, Maillet is the order as the riders go through the sprint.
Spyker are feeling under pressure to perform, and send Martinezz and Teklahaimonot to cross the gap up the climb in the middle of the race.
Barton leads Scarponi and Frei over the top,
Scarponi, Barton and Maillet is the order at sprint 2.
Frei manages to beat Barton to the climb, Scarponi is third. Frei is now level on points with Kvasina.
Calzati wins the final sprint, rolling through in front of Ortega and Scarponi. The peloton is 6 minutes back, 62km to go, game on.
The final climb starts for the peloton, zig,zaging the whole way up the mountain. The gap is 3'55" with 29km to ride.
Pedraza wastes no time attacking.
Machado attacks and pulls Pedraza back. Kohl now puts in his first moves of the race.
Kohl drops back, as now Gadret and Serpa attack.
Pedraza and Ardila follows them.
This pulls Gomez Merchante, Kohl, Henao, Abal, Martin, Rohregger and Lopez Garcia clear of the peloton.
Ricco and Cunego are on the front to shut things down. Interestingly Abal has been allowed to wait with the leaders.
Ardila pulls Pedraza, Serpa and Machado back.
Ricco, Cunego and Moreno cross the gap now.
Machado attacks, Gomez Marchante, Henao Montoya, Serpa and Martin all follow.
Machado reaches the break, it's in its death throws.
He and Martin get clear, while Abal pull everyone else back. In the front, Ortega is the lone leader.
Abal has pulled the break back now.
Gadret, Kohl, Ardila and Lopez Garcia all attack.
Machado as well, while Cunego moves into Abal's slipstream.
It's all pulled back, but here go Henao Montoya, Pedrazo and Ricco.
12 riders are clear as we hit the plateau: Pedraza, Henao Montoya, Kohl, Ricco, Lopez garcia, Machado, Gomez Marchante, Ardila, Cunego, Martin, Abal and Gadret.
10km to go as we prepare for our climb to the finsh. Taaramae, Serpa and Moreno are 30 seconds back.
The road rises again, and Pedraza, Machado, Gomez Merchante and Ricco all attack.
Henao Montoya is forced to cover this.
Ricco, Henao Montoya and Machado are strongest and go clear.
Cuengo rides everyone off his wheel, and reaches Machado.
Henao is desperately trying to get in Ricco's slipstream.
Machado has cracked dropping well back, Pedraza tries to get up to the leaders.
Cunego cruises up to Ricco and Henao Montoya.
As Machado finds the enrgy to attack past Pedraza again.
Machado gets to the leaders as the road flattens before the final rise. Cunego has just hit the front though.
Cunego leads through the climb ahead of Ricco and Henao, Machado is in difficulty.
They start to sprint.
Henao is struggling to keep up.
Cunego takes two in three days, Ricco is second, with Henao third.
Machado loses 30 seconds.
Pedraza is a minute back.
Kohl leads over the rest of the leaders at 1'25". Martin has to give up his second place today.
Uran finishes 4 minutes back, so may be able to slavage something from this race.
So Cunego has shown is strength, but is still 10 seconds behind Henao, with Ricco 3rd at +20. Machado looks 4th strongest at +57"
