Tour of Vancouver - Stage 6
Dippofix
i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/profile_zps33879318.jpg

Here we are again in Vancouver for the last road stage of this years Tour of Vancouver. It's also the deciding Mountain stage ahead of tomorrows TTT, so the riders with weaker support for that will need to attack today. Many are expecting a big battle between Brajkovic i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cal.png and Intxausti i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bac.png, but surely yellow jersey Pozzovivo i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kap.png will want a say in that.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0314_05_27-Greenshot_zps12805693.jpg

Kononenko i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pbn.png is the first to attack. He is followed by the ever active Sarmiento i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/b3b.png, and De La Cruz i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/fcb.png.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0314_09_49-Greenshot_zps94a5a895.jpg

They don't go for the intermediate, so Kononenko rolls over ahead of De La Cruz and Sarmiento. Their gap is at 48".

Kappa are doing all the work in the peleton. With 160km to go, the gap has gone up to just over three minutes.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0314_14_04-Greenshot_zpsed6d9e5c.jpg

Again the intermediate is not contested, this time it's Sarmiento who takes it (sorry for the poor screen Embarassed ). With 119km to go, the gap is at 6'04".

With 96km to go, the break reach their maximum advantage at 7'12". Kappa are still in full control back in the peleton.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0314_18_50-Greenshot_zpsdc8e71f9.jpg

It comes down to a photo finish for the last intermediate, but Kononenko is the very obvious winner. The gap has fallen to 4'38" in the meantime.

We have the first seemingly obligatory mid stage attack. With 60km to go, Elissonde i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lvc.png, Niyonshuti i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/afr.png, Jaramillo i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mac.png and Bjelkmark i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/sbp.png.

Kappa are giving it their all, but the gap isn't sinking. This is the situation with 38km to go:

A group goes clear on the descent of the last hill before Mount Seymour. In it are Marquez i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/qst.png, Pedraza i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mac.png, Pozzovivo i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kap.png, Brajkovic i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cal.png, Panayotov i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/b3b.png and Duarte i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ven.png. Top favourite Intxausti i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bac.png remains in the middle of the peleton.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0314_32_55-Greenshot_zps53da4688.jpg

Lövkvist i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/sbp.png, Popovych i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/met.png, Plaza i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/csc.png and Kiserlovski i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rep.png have joined them. They are now 24" ahead of the peleton.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0314_36_10-Greenshot_zpsb71e5807.jpg

They got caught just as they start the ascent of Mount Seymour. Meanwhile, the mid stage attackers are still 1'13" ahead of the pack, with the break another 50" ahead of them.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0314_39_28-Greenshot_zps2b9ca0f8.jpg

The same group minus Panayotov, Popovych and Plaza, but plus Abal i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/csc.png and Nazaret i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/fcb.png goes again as they hit Mount Seymour.

Again the move doesn't stick. The break are still over 2 minutes ahead, the mid stage attackers trailing them by half a minute.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0314_44_34-Greenshot_zpsce5be6ad.jpg

Mayhem in the peleton. With 10km to go, Duarte i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ven.png, Nazaret i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/fcb.png and Pozzovivo i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kap.png have attacked, while another group containing the rest of the group that attacked last plus Popovych i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/met.png is hot on their heels. The gap to the break is sinking fast.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0314_46_27-Greenshot_zpsbd538a7b.jpg

Amidst the chaos, Sarmiento i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/b3b.png has gone solo from the break. This is the situation with 9km to go:

64 man peleton

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0314_49_08-Greenshot_zpsf24e4bc4.jpg

The race is now completely falling to pieces, with another 13 man group getting away from the peleton, in which Basque super climber Intxausti i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bac.png is yet to make a move. It's not looking good for him at the moment.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0314_56_48-Greenshot_zpsce887614.jpg

With 7800 metres to go, Duarte catches the mid stage attackers. He is only 1'29" behind in the GC, but his gap to Pozzovivo is "only" 45" as of now.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0314_58_18-Greenshot_zps6dc189b8.jpg

Kononenko has nearly caught up to Sarmiento, but Duarte is not far behind. With 4500 to go, the situation as well as the gaps remain more or less unchanged, though some of the early attackers are struggling. Intxausti also seems to be waking up, but has he left it too late?

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0315_01_41-Greenshot_zpsbd497f47.jpg

Abal and Marquez put in a mighty attack, and nearly bridged the gap to group Duarte.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0315_05_18-Greenshot_zpsea22614b.jpg

With exactly 3km to go, Abal joins group Duarte, who are only 12" off race leader Sarmiento.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0315_06_23-Greenshot_zpsa762be25.jpg

Intxausti at last goes solo, followed by Marzano i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kap.png, but he is nearly one kilometre behind Sarmiento, who refuses to give up, even extending his lead by five seconds.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0315_07_22-Greenshot_zps41cd406c.jpg

Marquez too has nearly joined group Duarte, who look set to catch Sarmiento at last, with only 1600 metres to go.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0315_09_05-Greenshot_zpsc82555ea.jpg

In the meanwhile, Intxausti is putting up a great fight, and might even join the Brajkovic/Pozzovivo group.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0315_09_54-Greenshot_zpsa14cb79c.jpg

At last Sarmiento gets caught. What a fight the Colombian champion put up!

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0315_10_57-Greenshot_zps440ad2a8.jpg

Marquez suddenly has broken in badly, and while need to fight to stay ahead of Group Brajkovic/Pozzovivo.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0315_12_08-Greenshot_zps1792f0b9.jpg

Duarte is the first to open up his sprint with 900 metres to go, followed by Abal and Elissonde.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0315_13_05-Greenshot_zps1d1b333a.jpg

The fight for the win seems decided, it's more interesting who will take second here, with 400 metres to go.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0315_14_20-Greenshot_zps3823a3b2.jpg

Behind, Brajkovic is in a good position to distance himself from Pozzovivo as he opens his sprint.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0315_15_19-Greenshot_zps4aaf44a4.jpg

Duarte i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ven.png takes the win in style, bringing great joy to Venchi.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0315_16_04-Greenshot_zps5e2ae7f8.jpg

Behind him, Abal i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/csc.png has no problems seeing off Elissonde i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lvc.png, who still did extremely well.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0315_16_04-Greenshot_zps5e2ae7f8.jpg

Jaramillo i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mac.png and a completely empty looking Sarmiento i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/b3b.png round off the Top 5.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0315_17_38-Greenshot_zpseca55377.jpg

Marquez i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/qst.png can just about stay ahead of Brajkovic i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cal.png, while Nazaret i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/fcb.png beats Kononenko i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pbn.png to the line.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0315_18_30-Greenshot_zps8411962a.jpg

Pozzovivo i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kap.png rounds off the Top 10 ahead of Kiserlovski i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rep.png and Pedraza i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mac.png, while Intxausti i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bac.png manages to finish in that group too.
What does this mean for the GC? Well, believe it or not, there's nothing at all to seperate Duarte and Pozzovivo. 13 seconds behind that, Brajkovic and Intxausti are also tied! Abal is also still in contention only 18 seconds behind, while the rest are all over a minute down.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%206/2014-09-0315_20_05-Greenshot_zpsc6618a2d.jpg
