Tour of Vancouver - Stage 4
Dippofix
i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/profile_zps5ba77ef9.jpg

Welcome back to Vancouver for the queen stage of this race. A very tricky profile, with 8 crossings of a short hill before we turn off for an uphill finish on Mount Cypress. Top favourites are race leader Brajkovic i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cal.png and Intxausti i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bac.png. Once again the winds are very strong today, so that combined with the very tricky parcour might cause mayhem.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1114_15_34-Greenshot_zps85a7910c.jpg

Sousa i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kar.png goes on the attack. He is soon joined by Sarmiento i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/b3b.png and Popkov i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/met.png. It looks like these three will form the BotD, since they already pulled out a gap of 1'13".

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1114_16_53-Greenshot_zps7bde63c7.jpg

But no, Eritrean Champion Russom i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/afr.png sets off in pursuit. He's 1'01" behind the three escapees, and 34" ahead of the peleton.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1114_18_58-Greenshot_zps8c29d72a.jpg

Another attack from the pack, this time it's Schrangl i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mag.png. Russom meanwhile has caught up to the break.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1114_20_16-Greenshot_zpsc0e2e8ef.jpg

Popkov takes the KoM sprint ahead of Sarmiento and Russom. Schrangl meanwhile is struggling to get away from the pack. He's 1'34" behind the break, but only 19" ahead of the peleton.

Crossing the hill for the second time, Schrangl has at last caught up. Gap is at 3'28".

Sousa takes the sprint ahead of Russom and Schrangl. Popkov is the only one not to contest it. The gap has grown to 4'14" with 137km to go.

Sousa is also strongest at the next KoM sprint. He just about manages to edge out Popkov and Schrangl. The gap meanwhile is at 5'24".

Again no worries for Sousa at the intermediate. He comfortably beats Schrangl and Russom. Gap at 6'56".

Popkov makes it three, beating Sarmiento and Schrangl. The peleton are really turning up the heat now, cutting another minute off the gap, making it 3'14". The first sprinters have been dropped back in the pack, but nobody too big.

Maillet i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lvc.png is the first to attack in the pack, with 50km to go. He is followed by Eltink i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/sbp.png.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1114_51_23-Greenshot_zps490f6f0d.jpg

Just before the last intermediate sprint, the two attackers have caught up to the breakaway. They have an advantage of 2'12" with 32km to go.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1114_53_54-Greenshot_zps89878c62.jpg

Soler i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rep.png is the next to try his luck from the pack.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1114_54_56-Greenshot_zps9e0826ca.jpg

Eltink wins the last sprint ahead of Sousa and Russom. Their gap over Soler is 1'36", whereas his gap to the pack is only 12".

In the short flat before Mount Cypress, we have a big attack. Marquez i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/qst.png, Pozzovivo i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kap.png and race leader Brajkovic i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cal.png go for it with 15km to go. Nazaret i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/fcb.png is trying to follow them, while Intxausti i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bac.png is relatively far back in the pack.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1114_59_35-Greenshot_zps28f15e5c.jpg

Popkov i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/met.png realises that they are soon to be caught and decides to go solo.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1115_02_16-Greenshot_zpse34ef175.jpg

The favourites have reached the breakaway. This is the current situation:

But with 12km to go, the break and the big attackers are caught. Popkov however is still solo up the road, and built his gap to nearly a minute.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1115_07_17-Greenshot_zps01058d18.jpg

The same favourites and Maillet i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lvc.png try again.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1115_08_22-Greenshot_zps1451856a.jpg

Pozzovivo and Brajkovic have distanced the others and caught up to Popkov. They are 36" ahead of the other three, who are another 32" ahead of the 63 man peleton.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1115_09_16-Greenshot_zps234e2348.jpg

Eltink i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/sbp.png and Abal i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/csc.png have caught the three by attacking. They can now also see the leading trio.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1115_10_50-Greenshot_zps715811a5.jpg

Marquez i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/qst.png goes past Popkov, but the two top men in the GC are still ahead.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1115_12_09-Greenshot_zps75cc2a4f.jpg

Duarte i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ven.png, Nazaret i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/fcb.png and Abal i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/csc.png are the next to attack. With 7300 metres to go, they have a gap of 24" to the pack and are still 12" behind the leaders.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1115_12_57-Greenshot_zpsf3d64d5b.jpg

Popovych i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/met.png pulls them back on his own. The two leaders meanwhile have a gap of half a minute.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1115_14_55-Greenshot_zps6c2dc3a5.jpg

Efimkin i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pbn.png is the first favourite to snap. He's already over a minute behind the 32 man peleton. It really isn't looking good for Privatbanks leader.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1115_15_52-Greenshot_zps7ee0baa0.jpg

Pedraza i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mac.png is the next to attack, with 5km to go.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1115_17_17-Greenshot_zpsaf32617a.jpg

As Pedraza catches up to the leaders, there's been a split in the pack. These are the guys on the right side of it:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ven.png Duarte
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bac.png Intxausti
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/csc.png Abal
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/fcb.png Nazaret
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/qst.png Marquez
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rep.png Kiserlovksi

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/b3b.png Panayotov.
So the main casualties are Plaza i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/csc.png, Lövkvist i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/sbp.png and Rohregger i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mag.png.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1115_18_14-Greenshot_zpseed159f7.jpg

Maillet makes it back to the front group, but what can we see up the road? Brajkovic has been dropped!

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1115_22_50-Greenshot_zpsddee1210.jpg

Intxausti i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bac.png came from nowhere with a huge burst of acceleration and took the race lead.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1115_23_35-Greenshot_zps192ef634.jpg

As we near the summit of Mount Cypress with 2900 metres to go, Brajkovic has made it back to his former companions. This is the current situation:

Pozzovivo has broken free from his two companions. Remember he's only 18" off the yellow jersey, so Brajkovic really needs to react now.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1115_27_08-Greenshot_zps524fd5c6.jpg

With 1500 metres to go, Pozzovivo has nearly caught up to Intxausti. He is in the virtual yellow jersey, too!

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1115_28_18-Greenshot_zpsc24f5e1c.jpg

As the two leaders open their sprints, their gap is a bit more than half a minute.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1115_29_15-Greenshot_zps63decbda.jpg

Brajkovic and Pedraza look well and truly beaten. They're still 22" ahead of the pack, however.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1115_34_41-Greenshot_zpsdd8e2b8b.jpg

Pozzovivo is coming around Intxausti, it looks like he's going to take the stage and yellow today.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1115_35_23-Greenshot_zpsf1efdaff.jpg

What a stage for Pozzovivo i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kap.png! Kappa can be more than happy with their leaders performance here. Intxausti i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bac.png has to make do with a second place.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1115_36_31-Greenshot_zps517074e7.jpg

Brajkovic i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cal.png just about beats Pedraza i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mac.png to third, 50" behind the leaders. A dissapointing stage for the Heineken man, though Pedraza can be happy with his performance.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%204/2014-08-1115_38_29-Greenshot_zps7e683cf9.jpg

Over a minute behind the stage winner, Popovych i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/met.png, Karpets i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kar.png, Kiserlovski i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rep.png, Abal i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/csc.png, Panayotov i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/b3b.png and Duarte i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ven.png round off the Top 10.
