Tour of the Czech Republic - Stage 4
roturn

The GC might basically be done already with the hilly stage and the time trial beyond us. So the last two stages look to be for the sprinters. Then again they always have to be careful as the first stage was influenced by the wind a lot.

4 breakaway riders. But none of them is any GC danger normally being just under or above 10min.

Not the best race for Kazzinc so far. Coming to Czech with a top5 goal their actual leader Nepomnyachsniy is quite underperforming as 13th after missing the right attack in the hilly stage.
Their co-leader Boaro though is having a pretty good race sitting just one spot behind him in 14th despite being not the best puncheur. Now he has crashed though but with the help of his team mate Signorini he is able to make it back within a few kilometers.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_4_PCM0219.jpg

The break has reached the maximum gap of ~7min and keeps it at the moment being controlled by the Oz riders Rogers, Bennett, Jiao, Olman and Ford.
With 80km to go the sprinter teams would need to take over soon if they want a sprint finish. Oz don`t really has to seeing no GC danger.

The group goes up the climb with 35km to go and in the background the peloton clearly has closed the gap a bit. Due to the slower pace on the climb though it`s still 3'30 for them.

It`s Langeveld for Heineken, Kononenko and Puusepp for Privatbank and Taborre for Amex powering over the climb. So quite strong puncheurs pulling the peloton into the length and gaining ~75s on the climb.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_4_PCM0232.jpg
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_4_PCM0233.jpg

It though was too fast for many riders as we see a huge selection here. No worries for Oz though as Bobridge made it with the best together with 2 team mates. Also the rest of the podium in Craven and Westra are in this small group.
Just a little bit behind we have the rest of the top5 in Dowsett and Reus, while Holloway is the first sprinter as also Oss, who could do well here in a reduced group. In especially as the last kilometer is slightly uphill.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_4_PCM0234.jpg

In especially Taborre for Grillo and Kangert for his own GC ambitions as 6th were leading the biggest group back to the first 19 riders.
And while this was obviously a good thing for the breakaway as the pace slowed down a bit, the gap is still down to 2min with 25km to go.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_4_PCM0239.jpg

Privatbank doing a lot now also sending Konovalovas to the front. He sits in 7th in the GC. And while Amex still has one rider there, we at the moment don`t see a lot from Heineken and also Venchi is not helping a lot.
So the gap is not going down very fast at the moment.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_4_PCM0241.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kap.png Anza attacksthe group hoping for a stage win. Only 6km left and still 1min for the peloton, who might have given this win away after the recent situation.

Also i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/afr.png Russom wants to get rid of the other two and follows Anza making it two duos now seperated by 15s.

The peloton have given up now as the chances to catch them is gone. Bad luck for the sprinters but apparently some have suffered quite a bit on the steep hill.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_4_PCM0247.jpg

Russom goes into the lead while the two riders behind try to find their way back.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_4_PCM0249.jpg

Those ~4% here definitely hurt after a long breakaway. The front duo slowly losing energy while Alafaci and Naud are coming closer and still 700m to go.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_4_PCM0251.jpg

Alafaci takes the lead while Russom still in 2nd ahead of Anza and Naud.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_4_PCM0252.jpg

Dominant win in the end by 2 bike lengths. Very well done by Alafaci.
Naud also goes past on the final meters to take 2nd ahead of Russom and Anza.

Behind Holloway wins the fight against Docker for 5th and actually they have opened a gap of 12s to the next riders, where Grillo comes in 7th ahead of Dall'Antonia, Bobridge and Oss.
So Holloway has actually climbed a bit in the GC due to the gap and sits in 18th now.
