Tour of the Czech Republic - Stage 1
roturn
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_1_PCM0001.jpg

The race starts with a sprinter stage. But with some climbing over the stage it`s not the easiest.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_1_PCM0003.jpg

4 riders in todays break including i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pum.png Herklotz. The young German already impresses a lot in his neo season and is a regular guest in the morning breaks.
He is together with

The sprinter teams want a finish for their fast men. PrivatBank for Vanoverschelde, Jaguar for Bennett, Venchi for Van Avermaet and Heineken for Holloway are obvious teams to be at the front.

Sprint

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_1_PCM0013.jpg

The fight for the KoM sprints were highly contested and while Herklotz took the first lower rated, he had to let Blikra pass for the next higher classed. So the Swedbank rider will take the jersey tomorrow even though they are equal in points.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_1_PCM0016.jpg

Wind speed of almost 70km/h. This is never good for a big peloton and so we have the first splits with 41 riders being caught behind. Buggest names are three sprinters:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lvc.png Sonnery
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/b3b.png Chicchi
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/abc.png Dekkers

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_1_PCM0022.jpg

In especially Heineken is keeping the pace very high and so it`s no surprise that many more are caught just a bit later.
And it`s not the best time to get dropped as it`s only 20km left. 51 more riders behind, which means, only 59! riders in the peloton.
Big question now if all leaders are in front.
Well the big leaders are indeed in the first group but some mentionable names are caught behind:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ozc.png Rogers
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/afr.png Hategeka
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pum.png Vogt
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/b3b.png Lloyd
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/jag.png Bennett
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/hrc.png Trentin
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/amx.png Grillo
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/hrc.png Gavazzi
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rbc.png Docker
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/afr.png Abdallah
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/amx.png Keough
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/afr.png Rangel

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/amx.png Taborre

It has to be mentioned that even some team leaders such as i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ozc.png Bobridge, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ven.png Craven or i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pbn.png Konovalovas were doing the chasing in those last kilometers forcing those splits.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_1_PCM0039.jpg

The breakaway had no chance to stay ahead in that heavy wind. The peloton was so much faster in the end and easily caught them.

The sprint formations start and still some GC riders in between obviously as there aren`t many sprinters left. Vanoverschelde btw. is still in that group but is struggling to keep contact in the later rows.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_1_PCM0059.jpg

Holloway goes past Van Avermaet, while Dockx actually looks stronger than his leader.
All three have a decent gap already with Bobridge having a gap.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_1_PCM0062.jpg

Nobody seems to be able to beat the US sprinter today. He easily has 5-6 bike length advance already.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_1_PCM0064.jpg

Behind though the situation has changed as Bobrdige comes fast going past the Venchi duo, that is a bit disappointing here.
Also De Maar is soon to pass them.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_1_PCM0068.jpg

Gaps!
Holloway looks like the winner here with Bobridge and De Maar going for bonus seconds, while the Venchi riders can`t deliver today. From behind the very similar looking jersey of a Team Africa rider. It`s Thomson.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_1_PCM0070.jpg

But the clear winner is Dan Holloway. Once more he celebrates a stage win this season.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Czech%20Republic/mg2014_czech_1_PCM0072.jpg

Bobridge in 2nd ahead of De Maar for seconds. This brings in especially first into a very good GC position.
A pity for them but also for Holloway that no gaps were given. But it must have been about 1-2s only.

4th finisher today a strong Jay Thomson ahead of the Venchi duo.

With Herklotz and Gougeard being the only breakaway riders finishing in the front group, this is a nice 3rd and 5th in the GC for those now.
