Tour of the Czech Republic - Stage 3
SportingNonsense
The 3rd stage is littered with hills in the early stages, and then appears to be flat for the finish. What the profile doesnt indicate though, is a 4% rise in the final kilometre, which along with an uphill slant for the kilometres prior to that, will be a test to the sprinters who already messed up their 'easier' opportunity.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz3-1.jpg

A break of 6 goes clear: i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/bps_zps2b426596.png Zingle, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ken_zps45e45b07.png Penasa, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ing_zps78b9af5e.png B King, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Amanuel, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/htc_zps6bfb639a.png Van der Lijke and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/vue_zps51fdf35e.png Hivert.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz3-2.jpg

At the early stage of the race, the sprinters teams seem intent on keeping the gap at less than a minute for the whole race.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz3-3.jpg

Eventually they relent, and allow the break some space - by which time the break has split into 3 groups.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz3-4.jpg

The 6 come back together and start to build a good lead.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Amanuel was in the break yesterday, and he makes sure to win the Cat 3 climb today to move into 3rd in the KoM standings.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz3-5.jpg

33km to go and they hold a 5'30 lead. Hello, breakaway success today?

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/arm_zps60f3d6b6.png PFG-Armavia decide to start chasing, but considering Lo Cicero's skillset, it is a surprise that they do so on the climb rather than wait until the descent.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz3-6.jpg

The peloton splits!

79 in front, followed by a group of 60, and then a group of 2. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ubi_zps47ce5481.png Danny van Poppel and ... i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/arm_zps60f3d6b6.png Ivano Lo Cicero! Oops.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz3-7.jpg

PFG-Armavia round off their cock up by sending best placed rider Wang back to help Lo Cicero, to try to bring him back the peloton. But it is not something they will manage to do.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz3-8.jpg

So who will chase the breakaway?

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/air_zps84b8db92.png Simon Richardson attempts to do it single handedly.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz3-9.jpg

But when he pulls off it is left to the relay tempo of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/mei_zpsbbaf4141.png Meiji-Cannondale. Nobody is a threat to Zaini's lead, so they don't really see the need for chasing hard.

10km to go, and the break leads by 2 and a half minutes.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz3-10.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/htc_zps6bfb639a.png Van der Lijke is the strongest sprinter in the move, and already has a HC victory to his name from the Tour of South Africa earlier in the year. He will be the one to watch, surely.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/air_zps84b8db92.png Konovalovas comes forward to be the next single airBaltic chaser, alongside Meiji. The sprinters have moved towards the front, but theres no true organisation.

The gap starts to fall as well! Down to 1'22 at 5km to go, and decreasing further...

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz3-11.jpg

Having been caught on his Stage 1 move, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/vue_zps51fdf35e.png Hivert isnt going to hang around to be caught again though, and he launches the sprint from the breakaway.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz3-12.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/src_zps90f6d964.png Mezgec opens the sprint early, while i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ubi_zps47ce5481.png UPC are a disorganised mess with Knees, Van Poppel and Lorenzetto just wildly sprinting rather than creating a train.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz3-13.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/htc_zps6bfb639a.png Van der Lijke has made his move and takes the lead. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ing_zps78b9af5e.png Ben King had his wheel but falls away, and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Amanuel could not follow him either.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz3-14.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/htc_zps6bfb639a.png Armee, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/air_zps84b8db92.png Konovalovas, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/vue_zps51fdf35e.png Schreurs and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ing_zps78b9af5e.png Bazajev join the chasing sprinters - and a small gap has opened up over the peloton. A chance for vital time gains for Schreurs and Konovalovas?

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz3-15.jpg

Docker, Feillu, Belletti and Cucinotta are the first of the peloton behind them.

Feillu may not be up to much but teammate i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/bps_zps2b426596.png Zingle is making a resurgence up the 4% slope to the finish line, going alonside Hivert.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz3-16.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/htc_zps6bfb639a.png Nick Van der Lijke cannot be stopped! A big career ahead of him but he is winning races always, a great result for HTC.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz3-17.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/bps_zps2b426596.png Zingle takes 2nd, with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/vue_zps51fdf35e.png Hivert 3rd and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Amanuel 4th.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz3-18.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ken_zps45e45b07.png Penasa holds on 5th, just ahead of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/vue_zps51fdf35e.png Schreurs - and the Vueling rider manages to sneak an 11 second gain on the peloton!

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz3-19.jpg

King faded to 7th, while i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/htc_zps6bfb639a.png Armee is a celebrating 8th, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ing_zps78b9af5e.png Bazajev took 9th, and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/trh_zpsd616c798.png Bellis finished quickly for 10th.
