Tour of the Czech Republic - Stage 1
SportingNonsense
The race opens with a flat stage. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/arm_zps60f3d6b6.png Ivano Lo Cicero is the stand out sprinter - but he prefers it flat, and it isnt all that today. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/src_zps90f6d964.png Mezgec, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/air_zps84b8db92.png Docker, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ing_zps78b9af5e.png Bazajev, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/mei_zpsbbaf4141.png Park, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/bps_zps2b426596.png Feillu and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ubi_zps47ce5481.png Lorenzetto are the leading contenders against the Italian.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz1-1.jpg

A break of 4: i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ken_zps45e45b07.png Villella, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/vue_zps51fdf35e.png Hivert, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/luk_zps37d4ab7e.png Huzarski and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/tcs_zps625f9315.png Tatarinov

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz1-2.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/luk_zps37d4ab7e.png Huzarski won both King of the Mountains prime to take the lead in the competition at the end of the stage.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz1-3.jpg

Meanwhile with two intermediate sprints out on course, the 4 of them managed to split the rewards evenly - all taking 6 points/bonus seconds away from the day.

In the middle of the stage, airBaltic-Endura were playing a key role in chasing - supported by SRAM-Riboxx and PFG-Armavia. But after the climbs, they have been replaced by Rothaus-Aegon, Team UPC, and ING. Most notably, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/trh_zpsd616c798.png Bellis is relaying on the front.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz1-4.jpg

Into the final 20 kilometres there does not appear to be any team chasing though. But the pace is clearly high enough overall, as the breakaway are caught.

And now in the final 10km, the sprinters don't know what to do. They are ready to ride at the front, but they'd still like to have some more riders infront of them at this stage!

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/air_zps84b8db92.png Docker is 2nd wheel, with sprinters Mezgec, Feillu, Bazajev, Cucinotta lined up behind him. Lorenzetto, Bole and Van Poppel are well placed.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz1-5.jpg

Alarm bells are ringing at the back of the peloton - i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ozc_zps749fc2f0.png Michael Rogers has been dropped!

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz1-6.jpg

Docker finds some support in team leader i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/air_zps84b8db92.png Konovalovas, who will lead out the sprint. Following Docker now are i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ubi_zps47ce5481.png Van Poppel, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ubi_zps47ce5481.png Lorenzetto, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/bps_zps2b426596.png Feillu, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ing_zps78b9af5e.png Bazajev and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/src_zps90f6d964.png Mezgec.

Alongside this are i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/luk_zps37d4ab7e.png Mironov, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/pvl_zps0bcc4e74.png Bole and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ing_zps78b9af5e.png Hopman. With i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/vue_zps51fdf35e.png Schreurs and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mag_zpsa8a946c8.png Belletti well placed.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz1-7.jpg

Is i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/air_zps84b8db92.png Konovalovas actually a leadout though? He shoots away into the lead.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz1-8.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/src_zps90f6d964.png Duggan, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/htc_zps6bfb639a.png Van der Lijke and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/rbc_zps9a8b3bfb.png Anderson are moving up quickly in response.

But it is i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/pvl_zps0bcc4e74.png Bole, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ubi_zps47ce5481.png Van Poppel and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/luk_zps37d4ab7e.png Mironov who take up the response. Today may have looked flat, but there was a fair amount of short up/down sections and it seems that has led to a sprint of the stronger riders rather than the sprinters!

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz1-9.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/vue_zps51fdf35e.png Maurice Schreurs now comes surging forwards and into the lead as Konovalovas is caught. Final kilometre!

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz1-10.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/mti_zps330e0e2d.png Popkov, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/htc_zps6bfb639a.png Armee and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/pvl_zps0bcc4e74.png Ben Nasser are now pressing forwards to chase the Dutchman. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/htc_zps6bfb639a.png De Maar is moving up too, while alongside him i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ubi_zps47ce5481.png Lorenzetto has found some space and some speed.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz1-11.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/vue_zps51fdf35e.png Schreurs got that crucial jump first though, and he wins the stage! Vueling are really on fire at the moment.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz1-12.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/mti_zps330e0e2d.png Popkov is perhaps a surprise 2nd, with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ubi_zps47ce5481.png Lorenzetto a fast finishing 3rd. Van Poppel, Ben Nasser, Armee, Bole, De Maar, Anderson and Der all make the Top 10.

Romain Feillu took 12th with fellow expectant sprinter Bazajev taking 15th, while this stage turned out to be one that could really have suited Bellis - but only 17th for him.

Docker 37th, Mezgec 47th and Lo Cicero 76th. They've had better days.

But what about i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ozc_zps749fc2f0.png Rogers? He was in the 2nd of two sizeable groups that got dropped late on. Oz Cycling teammates Gerrans and Jiao do an admirable drop to close the gap to the group in front of them.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/cz/cz1-13.jpg

And with a large slice of luck, Rogers and the others in here are awarded no time loss! It doesn't fill you with confidence that Rogers can ride for GC here, with a much harder stage to come on Stage 2!
