Tour of South Africa - Stage 5
admirschleck
5th stage of this years Tour of South Africa should make the things a bit more calm before the last one, queen 6th stage which should definitely decide the GC winner and probably change some stuff. Anyways, this is a great chance for breakaway and some kind of "calm before the storm" stage. I don't think any of favourites are going to attack, so we can definitely expect the sprint here. Probably the last one.

As expected, guys from the teams that didn't really show themselves so far decided to take part in the early brekaway. Surprisingly, only 4 of the guys were in that group. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Abelouache, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/gzl.png Minnard, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ken_zps45e45b07.png Failli and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/b3b.png Izagirre are the names of these guys.

This was probably most one-dimensional and passive stage so far. Guys in front didn't even want to fight for KoM or Sprint points, so there's no much to talk about them. Meanwhile in peloton, i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w605/FroomeDog99/ken_zps81e5ead7.png Kenya Airways is controlling everything, which is quite normal, as they've yellow jersey now.

www.dodaj.rs/f/15/GV/2hzQE9MI/2014-04-26-111151-greens.jpg

Highest advantage of break group was 4'50", which was not so promising. As there was absolutely nothing to report in big part of this race, we'll just skip to 20 kilometers to go. Break was still in front of the peloton and had about a minute of advantage.

www.dodaj.rs/f/2D/L7/4CWFSR4f/2014-04-26-111312-greens.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bbk.png BelarusBank and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pbn.png PrivatBank are now on the top of the peloton, chasing that. It will be interesting to see if their ultra-flat-orientated sprinters are going to survive last hill.

www.dodaj.rs/f/B/10h/3aQVZ6KL/2014-04-26-111335-greens.jpg

The kilometers and the time passed and 10 kilometers to go, peloton almost caught breakaway. Only about 10 second of advantage for the guys in front, which is definitely not enough for break-win here. Is something strange going to happen or will the sprint decide the winner here, once again?

www.dodaj.rs/f/3K/2t/2qwZle7K/2014-04-26-111409-greens.jpg

It looks like it's option 1! i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ken_zps45e45b07.png Failli attacked just in the moment peloton caught other guys and he's now going strongly. 7 kilometers to go, he's on 30 seconds of advantage.

www.dodaj.rs/f/1k/vT/CUplyC2/2014-04-26-111448-greens.jpg

5 kilometers to go and the one only little bump is separating i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ken_zps45e45b07.png Failli and final 3 kilometers of downhill. Can he keep up the pace and get a great win for his team i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ken_zps45e45b07.png Kappa - ENI ?

www.dodaj.rs/f/y/Ak/38LW8wlh/2014-04-26-111505-greens.jpg

Meanwhile, in peloton...first train is created! Actually, it looks like there will be only one, as the pace behind, as well as 4 long stages behind these guys, exhausted everyone and there's just no energy left for some serious trains. However, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lvc.png Proni is once again leading out i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lvc.png Haussler and it looks like nothing can go bad at the moment. Just behind them, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mag.png Vastaranta found his place, in front of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/abc.png Richeze, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kar.png Davis and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mei.png Modolo. It looks like i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w605/FroomeDog99/ken_zps81e5ead7.png Ben Nasser is also there with his protector, but he's not going to sprint, just to secure his yellow jersey and position there.

www.dodaj.rs/f/2i/nz/4jQ2I8db/2014-04-26-111547-greens.jpg

Behind them, some of the guys are also fighting for the positions. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/met.png Hoffman, last years winner and the guy who disappointed here this year, is trying to catch up with the guys in front. As their main sprinters couldn't survive the last hill and are on the bottom of peloton, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bbk.png BelarusBank has i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bbk.png Kiriyenka here. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ken_zps45e45b07.png Gatto, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mag.png Belletti, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pbn.png Vorganov, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pbn.png Konovalovas, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mei.png Hatanka, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lvc.png Gautier, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/b3b.png Izagirre, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/sbp.png Skujins, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rbc.png Anderson and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rbc.png Bellis are also there.

www.dodaj.rs/f/V/oT/v7d6jqe/2014-04-26-111600-greens.jpg

Meanwhile, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ken_zps45e45b07.png Failli enters last kilometer and it's almost 100% clear now that he's going to win the stage. Absolutely great and brave attack for him seems to pay off now.

www.dodaj.rs/f/3b/PV/3cSYRDYI/2014-04-26-111709-greens.jpg

Sprint is about to start, the guys of 2nd mini-group finally managed to fill that little space that was between these 2 sprinting mini-groups and are now prepared to set off.

www.dodaj.rs/f/1d/Wg/u1tX9Ki/2014-04-26-111643-greens.jpg

As expected, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lvc.png Proni is the first one to start the sprint and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lvc.png La Vie Claire is definitely in great situation here. They can only hope that something bad doesn't happen to i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lvc.png Haussler now.

www.dodaj.rs/f/2v/7c/1tdxFoUl/2014-04-26-111622-greens.jpg

And just as everyone expected, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lvc.png Haussler was the first one to set off. Absolutely great acceleration from a German, as he's now in big advantage in this fight for 2nd.

www.dodaj.rs/f/v/oy/2fWBYqEN/2014-04-26-111727-greens.jpg

30 seconds in front of him, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ken_zps45e45b07.png Failli is the first one to pass across the finish line. The amount of energy he spent can be easily noticed, as he has no power left to even raise hands and celebrates the win.

www.dodaj.rs/f/1R/nA/2V5IYZ2N/2014-04-26-111830-greens.jpg

Behind i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lvc.png Haussler, there is one big group of the riders that are fighting for 3rd position. All of them can get it at the moment, but there's only one 3rd place. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mag.png Vastaranta, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/abc.png Richeze, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kar.png Davis, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mei.png Modolo, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bbk.png Kiriyenka i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ken_zps45e45b07.png Gatto, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mag.png Belletti, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pbn.png Vorganov, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pbn.png Konovalovas, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/met.png Hoffman, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/abc.png Richeze are still all there.

www.dodaj.rs/f/3q/mr/4966QazM/2014-04-26-111749-greens.jpg

All the favourites and the guys from Top 10 in GC are secured and they're also trying to sprint, just to be sure they won't lose any time in GC. They're all around 15th-25th position atm.

www.dodaj.rs/f/1H/te/4DLktaP0/2014-04-26-111759-greens.jpg

Meanwhile, in front, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lvc.png Haussler is having his own show as he easily gets the 2nd position by huge margin. Lovely acceleration and once again 2nd position for him.

www.dodaj.rs/f/3X/UO/3ojHtbY1/2014-04-26-111843-greens.jpg

Behind him, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mag.png Vastaranta gets the only one remaining place on podium. Great sprint for him and it looks like he still got it, after exhausting stage yesterday.

www.dodaj.rs/f/Q/wD/3evyWbV0/2014-04-26-111903-greens.jpg

Tight sprint for 4th and positions behind that. At the end, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mei.png Modolo got 4th, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/met.png Hoffman 5th, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kar.png Davis 6th, i1332.photobucket.com/albums/w605/FroomeDog99/ken_zps81e5ead7.png Ben Nasser 7th, while i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ozc.png Bobridge, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/abc.png Richeze and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lvc.png Proni gets 8th, 9th and 10th.

www.dodaj.rs/f/K/Gj/4bcCGafn/2014-04-26-111925-greens.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/gzl.png Oss was out of fight today, as he finished on 26th position. It looks like that 1st stage was lucky for him, while all others were "must-follow" because of yellow jersey.

www.dodaj.rs/f/26/eW/3ObZ1lq7/2014-04-26-111942-greens.jpg

Rest of peloton just slowly passes throught the finish. It was pretty easy day, comparing to one yesterday and to one that's coming tommorow for the guys.
