The second stage is held in the Netherlands and it is a hilly time - trial. On paper, Cancellara is the big favorite and with a bit of luck he might take the yellow jersey as well - from the leading four riders only the yellow jersey wearer Samuel Sanchez seems able to ride a decent time - trial

Michael Ford won a time - trial in last year's ToNE but it was the flat one. Still today he took an early lead with the time of 39 minutes and 35 seconds. Vesuvio had a second strong time - trialist in Marcel Kittel, the U23 World Champion beating Ford's time by 8 seconds a few moments later

Sebastian Lang had a promising start, but in the end the German Champion wasn't able to beat either of the Vesuvio riders, finishing 17 seconds behind Kittel

At the intermediate check points, Denis Van Winden was behind the Vesuvio riders, but at the finish line he managed to take the lead, beating Kittel's time by 3 seconds

Quite surprising, Fiedler wasn't able to post a real threat for the provisional leading position, even though he finished only 4 seconds slower than Van Winden

Tom Boonen is definitely waiting for the cobbles and today he came up with a pretty decent performance, just like yesterday. He finished 1 minute and 12 seconds behind Van Winden

SE's leader for this race, Alessandro Ballan, is also waiting for the cobbles even though he might be able to win some time over Boonen in the hilly stage as well. Today he was 4 seconds slower than the WB rider

Posthuma won this particularly stage last year and he could be able to repeat that performance as he took the lead from Van Winden with 20 seconds

But the Dutch Champion couldn't enjoy his lead for too long as right behind him Cancellara came with another best time. The Swiss champion finished with the time of 38 minutes and 26 seconds, 28 seconds better than what Posthuma did

Devolder should be there in all the crucial stages and today he lost 'just' 55 seconds to Cancellara, which should keep him in front of the Carmeuse rider in the general classification

Boom had a very good ride, finishing 43 seconds behind Cancellara, which means that he will be higher in the general classification than both Cancellara and Devolder at the end of the day

Samuel Sanchez did everything he could but he still lost 1 minute and 47 seconds to Cancellara and 1 minute and 4 seconds to Lars Boom, who is now the new leader of the race
