The first stage of this year's Tour of California is a very short prologue of just 2.5 km. It's still the time triallists who are the top favourites: The American David Zabriskie, Jerome Coppel and David Millar.

Kittel from the Accumalux team was the first to set a proper time of 3'35.

Van Winden came close, but ended up being two seconds slower than Kittel. However, it was Van Winden's team mate, Ford, who much later ended up beating Kittel's time by 1 second.

But then, the World ITT Champion David Zabriskie came along. And he lived up to the expectations by cutting 4 seconds off Ford's time. As he was starting, so did the British ITT Champion, David Millar. He was nowhere close to beating Zabriskie's time, though.

And if the 1st place wasn't enough for Wikipedia, Jerome Coppel managed to take 2nd, 1 second slower than Zabriskie. No one really came closer after this although another homeland favourite Taylor Phinney did take fourth.
