Last stage of this tour is 128 km. long and is perfect for the sprinters. It's not very long, it's almost completely flat, and Thor Hushovd will definitely do his best to take the Sprinter's Jersey today. Zabriskie seems to have won the race overall, and Bernucci has taken the Mountain's Jersey. So, today, it's the sprinters' day.
But of course, not a day without a tv-break, today consisting of Halgand (Philips), Fernandez (Domina), Sestili (Credit Lyonnais), Van Winden (Gazetta), Gazvoda (Erste) and Vanspreybrock (Carlsberg). Of course, if the peloton would like to see these guys again they can't let them go for too long considering the stage's length.
The peloton decided to give the breakawayriders a gap of 8 minutes until they started chasing with 70 km. to go. As always, it was primarily Festina who was up front. 20 km. later, it was down to 4'26 and still decreasing, and it seemed like the peloton would do better today than on the previous stage. Maybe because of France TV's help?
With 25 km. to go, the escapees started getting nervous and attacking. At this point, the breakaway is doomed to death with a gap of just 1'16. Halgand and Vanspreybrouck manage to get away while the others are caught by the peloton shortly after. Unfortunately for them, they are also caught a few kilometres later. It will be a sprint - can Hushovd take the jersey?
So, the sprint is about to start. Cabrera is leading the train with team-mate Bazajev, with 1 stage win, right behind him. McEwen is finally well-placed in 3rd position with Hushovd on his wheel. Next and Castenada and Capecchi.
1000 meters! Pretty much no changes compared to the screenshot with 2500 meters to go.
