The difficult Stoke on Trent stage has just enough late hills you'd think to cause our first real selection - though in truth some riders have already slipped back on GC due to crashes and late splits.

The Many climbs in the latter half of the stage finish in Stoke, a town whose topography has lended itself to a draggy finish.

Our break of the day has five riders, three of which are well placed in the King of the Mountains competition.

Vanbilsen (HTC), Brammeier (Kenya Air) and Renang (Swedbank) all have double figures and these three are joined by Korzh (Tinkoff) and Boeckmans (Bpost).

Here are the results of the five King of the Mountains primes.

KoM 1: Brammeier - Vanbilsen - Renang
KoM 2: Vanbilsen - Brammeier Renang
KoM 3: Vanbilsen - Boeckmans - Brammeier
KoM 4: Vanbilsen - Boeckmans - Renang
KoM 5: Vanbilsen - Korzh - Boeckmans

As you can see Vanbilsen takes a huge lead in the King of the Mountains competition with Brammeier and Renang topping up their points slightly. Boeckmans moved nicely into contention too.

The last KoM split the break up with only Vanbilsen, Korzh and Boeckmans remaining out front.

SRAM however with both race leader Haussler and the ever dangerous veteren Wegmann as part of their squad have controlled the break nicely chasing it all down.

SRAM have had a really effective race so far, but for another team it has been a poor race and this mainly down to misfortune. Horrible luck again for Jaguar as one of its leaders British Champion Alex Dowsett is forced to retire.

SRAM have controlled to such an extent that we are going to get a sprint as approximately 50 riders are together for the final sprint. The only really noteworthy sprinter dropped in Kennaugh (Vueling). In fact on closer inspection Drujon (Bpost), Nelson (Halfords), Krasnov (Tinkoff) and Schinker (Kenya Air) have all slipped back.

As we can see SRAM still have control with Keisse leading out Haussler, Cavendish is showing some great strength on the small hills to still be there with Ventoso + Caldiera (Prio) and Kreder (Swedbank) in the hunt.

Another hilly leader is down and it's Schreurs (Vueling)

The sprint turns in to a duel between Haussler and Cavendish.

To the surpise of most commentators Cavendish holds for his second win of the race.

Haussler hangs on to his GC lead though from Cav by 2 seconds with Kreder quietly slipping up to 3rd after outsprinting Ventoso for third place on the day.

Also possibly worth noting is Van Keirsbulck slipping into the Youth jersey, could be useful in his attempt to maintain a high GC in tomorrows demanding stage.
