Another easy ride for the second stage of the Tour of Britain, and therefore, the sprinters will be again the main favourites, with i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png Danilo Napolitano trying to repeat yesterday's performance, although surely guys like

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Erik Mohs
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/rapha.png Peter Kennaugh
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/proximus.png Mark Cavendish
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Rothaus.png Maxime Vantomme
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Claudio Corioni

will want to avoid a second win for the Italian. It will be also interesting to see if i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/redbull.png Daryl Impey confirms the good form he showed in the first stage.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Britain/Stage%202/PCM0002.jpg

And we have a big group of attackers! The following 11 riders:

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png Marco Marcato, Paolo Longo Borghini
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wwe.png Hayden Roulston
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Jonathon Thire
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/focus.png Tom Thill
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/siemens.png Daniel Schorn
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/calgiant.png Pieter Ghyllebert
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/oz-1.png King Lok Cheung
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png Evan Oliphant
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/koppert.png Pim Ligthart
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Meiji.png Taiji Nishitani

Have 1' on the peloton. It's clear Ferrari – ERG want a good performance after Dall'Antonia's crash, as they're sending two riders up the road.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Britain/Stage%202/PCM0003.jpg

40km into the race, and the breakaway is well established, with a 2'48'' gap. Then, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/BPost.png Jan Polanc joins them after strong solo effort, so the group is up to 12 riders.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Britain/Stage%202/PCM0004.jpg

The break arrives to the first intermediate sprint, and Thire beats Marcato and Ligthart, while the gap is up to 3'37''.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Britain/Stage%202/PCM0005.jpg

The breakaway now enters the hilly terrain which extends through the middle of the stage. The gap keeps growing and is now 6', but Unicredit has started to work in the peloton.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Britain/Stage%202/PCM0006.jpg

First KoM sprint of the day, and Polanc takes it, followed by Nishitani and Thill. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/siemens.png Rick Zabel will stay in the KoM lead though, as Polanc won't be able to get more than 11 points today. The gap is now down to 5'16'', with the peloton more focused in keeping the gap stable, rather than actually chasing.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Britain/Stage%202/PCM0007.jpg

In the second and last KoM sprint, it's Cheung who goes first, with Roulston in second and Ghyllebert in third. The gap has barely decreased, and it's hovering at 5'05''.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Britain/Stage%202/PCM0008.jpg

30km to go and the gap is down to 2'39''. The peloton has managed this quite well, as they have this under control, but they didn't push too hard in the hills, meaning the sprinters should be relatively fresh. Now it's i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/proximus.png Proximus, i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png Unicredit and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Pokerstars working at the front.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Britain/Stage%202/PCM0009.jpg

20km to go now, and the gap is just at 1'20''. Barring a major surprise, we'll have a bunch sprint again.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Britain/Stage%202/PCM0010.jpg

Just after the 10km banner, Polanc attacks as he sees the breakaway has no chance. Gaps are:

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/BPost.png Polanc<-16''->i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png Marcato, Longo Borghini<-22''->Peloton
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wwe.png Roulston
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Thire
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/focus.png Thill
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/siemens.png Schorn
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/calgiant.png Ghyllebert
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/oz-1.png Cheung
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png Oliphant
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/koppert.png Ligthart
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Meiji.png Nishitani

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Britain/Stage%202/PCM0011.jpg

Soon, the chase group is swallowed by the peloton, and only Polanc is up the road, with a small 10'' gap. Unicredit is pulling really hard.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Britain/Stage%202/PCM0012.jpg

And Polanc is caught. All is in the hands of the sprinter teams now, and soon we shall see the first trains emerge.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Britain/Stage%202/PCM0013.jpg

And there we go. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/unicredit.png Unicredit set their train, with

Giovanni Visconti
Boy Van Poppel
Mirko Lorenzetto
Danilo Napolitano

Following the race leader are

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/ferrari.png Tiziano Dall’Antonia, who doesn't seem to be feeling the effects of his crash in the first stage.
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/koppert.png Bobbie Traksel
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/proximus.png Mark Cavendish
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Rothaus.png Maxime Vantomme
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/rapha.png Peter Kennaugh

No alternative train is being set up, and Proximus seem to prefer Mark Cavendish to follow Unicredit's, after ther failure in the first stage. It's also surprising to see i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/koppert.png Hans Dekkers and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Erik Mohs very far back, bad positioning which pretty much ends their hopes for this stage.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Britain/Stage%202/PCM0014.jpg

Napolitano launches his sprint with 600m to go, but by then Impey, Vantomme, Kennaugh and Docker are coming very fast.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Britain/Stage%202/PCM0015.jpg

Docker and Impey get some advantage, while Napolitano's speed doesn’t seem to be as good as it was in the first stage.

i1150.photobucket.com/albums/o608/kumazan/Tour%20of%20Britain/Stage%202/PCM0016.jpg

And i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Cyclevox-1.png Docker has this! The Australian surprises Napolitano, who will have to settle for second. Impey keeps showing good form getting a solid third place, with local sprinters Kennaugh and Cavendish, who fail to deliver yet again, only get 4th and 5th.

There's still a lot to race, but surely the GC favourites won't like the fact that Impey, who is very solid in the hills, has got a fair amount of bonus seconds in these 2 stages. Hopefully this will mean we'll have more aggressive racing in the hills, which come in the next 3 stages.
