The first attackers decide the intermediate sprint order, Pranata takes it from Olivier and Atkins.
The bunch doesn't like this move though, and it takes a few minutes until De Baat and Serov are allowed to go clear.
Just in time for the first KoM prize, Van der Schueren joins the two leaders, but is unable to finish higher than third behind De Baat and Serov.
As the peloton climbs over the top, Schelling tries to catch up in an attempt to give Cisco some kind of points towards their goal of avoiding relegation.
He increases the size of the break to 4 shortly before the second sprint located right at the finish line. De Baat is the only one interested and gains six seconds.
Those bonus seconds are probably meaningless though as all breakaway riders lost time in the numerous splits yesterday.
The second KoM goes to Van der Schueren 5 minutes ahead of the bunch.
Jaguar help out CSC a bit, obviously trusting Froome for the stage and Dowsett for the GC.
By the time the Cat.1 is climbed, Vespa takes the lead for Ginanni.
Some four minutes ahead, Van der Schueren takes the bunch of points available ahead of Schelling and Serov and moves himself into a comfortable classification lead.
It's interesting to note no KoM prize was contested by any rider today, surprising considering the amount of rather free points on offer for UPC and Cisco.
Rocchetti fancies his chances of a surprise attack and does exactly that close to the hilltop. There are about 30k to the finish and he faces some 3:30 minutes to make up.
So actually, the break might have a shot here!
The Italian gets nowhere as we ascent for the final time today. Just as he gets caught though, Ginanni accelerates.
Rocchetti seems to have saved some energy and follows, just as Schreurs and Wegmann do in a single file.
Up ahead, the break still works together with Schelling taking the last KoM prize. It won't stop Van der Schueren from wearing the jersey tomorrow as he gets second.
Only 50 seconds later, Ginanni passes the banner with the peloton following about half a minute behind.
The riders face a tough downhill, and as the motos try to give us an overview of the situation, we see splits again!
There were no crashes, so all of this is simply down to horrible positioning and different downhill skills.
The camera focuses on Dowsett who can already see his team mates waiting for him one corner ahead.
You can't tell from this shot, but he is accompanied by
Visconti, Lloyd
Chavanel
Costa
Some seconds further down, we see Teruel struggling to defend his leader's jersey. It was a nice points haul for CSC yesterday, but it won't continue.
Just exiting the tunnel where the leaders passed nearly four minutes ago, however, is Gautier! He really can't live up to anyone's expectations this season, it seems.
Back to the tete de la course where Ginanni caught the tail of the break. Behind, we already see Hoogerland, who placed a good attack to try and reduce the distance.
The Italian somehow didn't like how the break worked together, so he drops back soon, while Hoogerland got caught by the relayers.
The group left chasing was really whittled down, but we cannot confirm who is present here yet.
We do know who tries to attack out of it though! Wang goes for glory as there doesn't seem to be a coordinated chase, and Bellis, Ginanni and Ji sense the opportunity.
Up front, we see Van der Schueren leaving the group where Schelling is already gone out front.
Only 10 kilometres to go in this confusing race, and Bellis plus Wegmann go around the corner with everyone else in front waiting to be reeled in.
As Hoogerland and Acevedo attack across, we now get a confirmation of the composition of this group.
Paulinho, Ardila, Pellizotti, Pineau
Ji, Zaini, Hatanaka
Schreurs, Kadri
Rocchetti, Puusepp
Khripta, Efimkin
Flügel, Preidler
Bosisio, Bono
Tamayo, Wang
Kessler, Sousa
Taborre
Froome
Screw that already! Right under the banner, Froome falls! He luckily only takes Kadri with him, but he rejoins a group about 3 minutes behind and loses all chances for any result today.
In all the attacks, noone actually realised Schelling still leads Van der Schueren! It's about 25 seconds between the two with the big group another 30 seconds down. Bellis and Wegmann couldn't get away in the end.
The flamme rouge is in sight for everyone when Ardila attacks past the HTC rider with Efimkin in his slipstream.
As the sprint starts, we see a WWE dominance behind and Schelling to be caught after an amazing fight.
Efimkin overtakes Schelling with Ardila struggling to keep up.
Under the kite, both are swept by a fast Wegmann on the left. Ginanni and Zaini follow behind with Flügel trying the open middle lane.
Flügel has some speed!
Wegmann fades, but Zaini can still hold off Flügel.
And Zaini wins! Flügel comes second and Wegmann just edges out Ginanni for the final bonus seconds.
Only 28 riders finish on the same time as the winner, so the GC is surprisingly spread after the opening two stages.
Big losers are the whole Jaguar, Bpost and CSC teams.
