Tour du Faso - Stage 10
SportingNonsense
No profile picture for today's stage. Needless to say, it as flat as most of the race. One last sprinter's stage. A chance for #6 for Roelandts?

For the first time in the race, it is is a non-Bouygues rider in the race lead. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/bps_zps2b426596.png Remco Broers rides surrounded by his Bpost teammates.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas10-1.jpg

The breakaway is i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/Barclayskenmicro_zps52dc0de5.png Marque and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Nel.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas10-2.jpg

Now, MTN's sprinter i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Abdallah started the day 15th, just 3 seconds away from a Top 10 spot. He knows it, and grabs 3rd at the first intermediate sprint.

It would have been easier if teammate Nel wasn't in the breakaway, surely! And there could be trouble, as i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/dbg_zps356cc31d.png Abakoumov took 3rd at the 2nd sprint.

So to the final sprint, Abdallah needs to beat Abakoumov to take a Top 10 GC spot. Can he do it?

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas10-3.jpg

Yes he can!

The break are caught with 7km to go, leaving us to build for a wet sprint finish to the race. WWE, Bouygues and airBaltic are building trains.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas10-4.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/wwe_zpsb6c72e16.png WWE have got Jeandesbosz, Txurruka, Vingerling and Greipel. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/btc_zpse1fa0b09.png Bouygues have got Gallopin, Locatelli and El Fares working for Roelandts in the unaccustomed Green colours, with Kip and Abdallah close. Finally i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/air_zps84b8db92.png airBaltic have Vosekalns and Raim for Vaitkus.

Bouygues struggle as airBaltic move alongside WWE. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ubi_zps47ce5481.png Veelers, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/mti_zps330e0e2d.png Vasylyuk and i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/Barclayskenmicro_zps52dc0de5.png Schinker have tagged on to the train.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas10-5.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ing_zps78b9af5e.png Kip meanwhile tries to cross to WWE's train, but can't do it before i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/wwe_zpsb6c72e16.png Vingerling launches the sprint.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas10-6.jpg

But in fact Kip does make it to Greipel's wheel, and now Vaitkus is trying to get up to Kip. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/wwe_zpsb6c72e16.png Greipel has started his sprint with Vingerling fading, but it feels a little early.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas10-7.jpg

They are all lined up behind Greipel now, Roelandts is 7th wheel

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas10-8.jpg

The end of the bridge only marks 800 metres to go, as i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/air_zps84b8db92.png Vaitkus moves into the lead. Roelandts has been hindered by a slow i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/Barclayskenmicro_zps52dc0de5.png Schinker.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas10-9.jpg

Kip struggles to pass Greipel, but now Roelandts is flying - as usual. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ubi_zps47ce5481.png Veelers is also going strong.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas10-10.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/air_zps84b8db92.png Tomas Vaitkus hangs on to win the stage! It also gives him 5th overall with the time bonuses.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas10-11.jpg

Jurgen Roelandts caps a high scoring race with 2nd. 5 sprint stage wins, part of the TTT win, two 2nd places and a fourth is a very nice return from the race.

And taking a very important 3rd is Tom Veelers for UPC. 8 seconds time bonuses moves him for 18th to 8th overall - big points gains for the relegation threatened Dutch squad!

But could there be even gains for the sprinters? There is a gap between the first 14 riders and the rest of the field. GC Top 2 Broers and Van der Ginst just behind the split...

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas10-12.jpg

...but no time gaps are awarded.

Remco Broers is the 2013 Tour du Faso champion!

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas10-13.jpg

He is also the best young rider, with Bpost the best team. Roelandts of course is a clear winner of the Points jersey.
