No profile picture for today's stage. Needless to say, it as flat as most of the race. One last sprinter's stage. A chance for #6 for Roelandts?
For the first time in the race, it is is a non-Bouygues rider in the race lead. Remco Broers rides surrounded by his Bpost teammates.
The breakaway is Marque and Nel.
Now, MTN's sprinter Abdallah started the day 15th, just 3 seconds away from a Top 10 spot. He knows it, and grabs 3rd at the first intermediate sprint.
It would have been easier if teammate Nel wasn't in the breakaway, surely! And there could be trouble, as Abakoumov took 3rd at the 2nd sprint.
So to the final sprint, Abdallah needs to beat Abakoumov to take a Top 10 GC spot. Can he do it?
Yes he can!
The break are caught with 7km to go, leaving us to build for a wet sprint finish to the race. WWE, Bouygues and airBaltic are building trains.
WWE have got Jeandesbosz, Txurruka, Vingerling and Greipel. Bouygues have got Gallopin, Locatelli and El Fares working for Roelandts in the unaccustomed Green colours, with Kip and Abdallah close. Finally airBaltic have Vosekalns and Raim for Vaitkus.
Bouygues struggle as airBaltic move alongside WWE. Veelers, Vasylyuk and Schinker have tagged on to the train.
Kip meanwhile tries to cross to WWE's train, but can't do it before Vingerling launches the sprint.
But in fact Kip does make it to Greipel's wheel, and now Vaitkus is trying to get up to Kip. Greipel has started his sprint with Vingerling fading, but it feels a little early.
They are all lined up behind Greipel now, Roelandts is 7th wheel
The end of the bridge only marks 800 metres to go, as Vaitkus moves into the lead. Roelandts has been hindered by a slow Schinker.
Kip struggles to pass Greipel, but now Roelandts is flying - as usual. Veelers is also going strong.
Tomas Vaitkus hangs on to win the stage! It also gives him 5th overall with the time bonuses.
Jurgen Roelandts caps a high scoring race with 2nd. 5 sprint stage wins, part of the TTT win, two 2nd places and a fourth is a very nice return from the race.
And taking a very important 3rd is Tom Veelers for UPC. 8 seconds time bonuses moves him for 18th to 8th overall - big points gains for the relegation threatened Dutch squad!
But could there be even gains for the sprinters? There is a gap between the first 14 riders and the rest of the field. GC Top 2 Broers and Van der Ginst just behind the split...
...but no time gaps are awarded.
Remco Broers is the 2013 Tour du Faso champion!
He is also the best young rider, with Bpost the best team. Roelandts of course is a clear winner of the Points jersey.
