Tour du Faso - Stage 7
SportingNonsense
Stage 7, and the wait for a non-Bouygues winner goes on.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas7-1.jpg

Kenya Airways were the only team interested in a breakaway, with i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/Barclayskenmicro_zps52dc0de5.png Kangangi setting off on a move once again.

But today MTN joined ING in being interested in the intermediate sprints, and chased him down in the run up to the first sprint. Good move by the South African squad, as it led to i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Abdallah winning it!

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas7-2.jpg

Kip must settle for 2nd, with Kenya still getting something as Schinker takes 3rd.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ing_zps78b9af5e.png Kip bounces back to beat Abdallah at the remaining two sprints.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas7-3.jpg

Schinker took 3rd at the 2nd sprint, but was too slow to get going and missed out at the 3rd sprint.

16 seconds gained for Kip is enough to put him back up to 2nd overall, while 14 seconds for Abdallah will see him up into the Top 20, from 47th overall.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png MTN's new found enthusiasm carries through to the finish as they finally look to create a train for Abdallah using Nel and Day.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas7-4.jpg

But also learning new tactics are Die Berg Komt Er. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/dbg_zps356cc31d.png Chavanel is leading out Abakoumov - the team having previously let their sprinters do their own thing. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/wwe_zpsb6c72e16.png Greipel has their wheel.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas7-5.jpg

Despite not acting as a leadout Vingerling is still well placed in the peloton. For once Veelers also starts in a decent position, while Roelandts is behind Vaitkus, with Wippert, Stallaert and Vasylyuk close.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas7-6.jpg

Abakoumov makes his move. It is all Die Berg and WWE at the front right now.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas7-7.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/btc_zpse1fa0b09.png Reolandts has left himself work to do here heading into the final kilometre.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas7-8.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/wwe_zpsb6c72e16.png Greipel makes his move. Great chance here for him after that Die Berg lead out. But Roelandts and Vaitkus are closing in fast...

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas7-9.jpg

Roelandts is really catching up, but not in time. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/wwe_zpsb6c72e16.png Andre Greipel wins the stage, and finally Roelandts is beaten!!

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/fas7-10.jpg

It's still a 2nd for the Belgian National Champion with Vaitkus 3rd ahead of a block from the Benelux teams - Wippert, Stallaert, Veelers, Boeckmans and Abakoumov. MTN did not feature in the end - they can't do both the sprints and the finish, and in terms of the GC, it is the sprints that could be quite lucrative for them.

After his win, Greipel now sits in 2nd overall.
