The route for today can be described in a single screenshot:
Theres the start line, one kilometre to go banner, and finish line - all in one!
Marlen Zmorka was 3rd off and took a very early lead - marginally ahead of the 4th rider to go Racault, but it didnt last long, as also starting early was one of the stage favourites Hugues Mottin, who beat the Ukrainian by 2 seconds.
With a time of 1'23, it is no match to the Kilometre times that you would see in the Velodrome - but will it turn out to be enough to beat everyone else today?
Surprisingly, the 2nd Bouygues rider to go was their other big stage favourite Tony Martin. Just as surprising was that he too was 2 seconds down on Mottin - level with Zmorka!
Metinvest's TTT squad of Ma, Lang and Lagkuti then proceeded to join Martin and Zmorka at 2 seconds behind Mottin.
Time for another stage favourite Rick Flens. 2nd place for him - 1 second down on Mottin.
Starting to get to the closing stages, and a few riders put in some surprisingly strong rides - joining that 2 second down bracket. Brammeier, Grosu and Groenewegen.
Vasylyuk next, and rather than become the 6th Metinvest rider 2 seconds down, he goes faster! Just one second down for him, taking 3rd for now.
It seems like conditions may be slightly favourable now. Mottin has led for so long, will that change?
Sven Nooytens now goes only 2 seconds down, and his Prologue and Sprint stats are below 70!
What can Tom Veelers do?
Also 2 seconds down.
Now it is defending champion Tomas Vaitkus with 72 PL and 78 SP. Can he claim the Yellow jersey straight away?
1 second down!
Finally, Ismael Kip with 75 PL and 80 SP. This is surely winnable for him as he crosses the line...
1 second down!
Hugues Mottin clings on for a clear victory - all of 1 second - and it is an ideal start for Bouygues Telecom as they seek points for promotion.
The whole field - bar the lazy Control riders - finish within 5 seconds.
