Tour of Taiwan - Stage 7
roturn
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Taiwan/mg_taiwan_7_1.jpg
After some harder stages won by breakaways, while the favourites obviously wait for the big climb on the very last stage it`s time for the sprinters again.
But with a steep last kilometer some puncheurs might surprise.
Next to
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pirelli.png Bazajev
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Aker.png Haedo
we must also have an eye on
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/redbull.png Sonnery
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/redbull.png Moreno
and
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Vespa.png Carrara today as they are clearly favoured on the final ramp.

Two riders start the row of attacks this morning.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Taiwan/mg_taiwan_7_2.jpg
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/hollister.png Caminiti
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Dumoulin

At the early KoM sprint they are joined by i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Meiji.png Kwok.
Dumoulin wins ahead of Kwok and Caminiti without any big fight for the points.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Taiwan/mg_taiwan_7_3.jpg

Oz is very active so far in this race and are leading the peloton again together with Vespa and Pirelli.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Taiwan/mg_taiwan_7_4.jpg

First sprint of the day. Caminiti rides over the line first, Kwok and Dumoulin following.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Taiwan/mg_taiwan_7_5.jpg

It`s looking better today. With 75km left the advance is down to 5min with Focus doing some work for Feillu/Sicard now.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Taiwan/mg_taiwan_7_6.jpg

Kwok winning the second intermediate ahead of Dumoulin and Caminiti but actually none of them is that interested in any bonus seconds or small pointers. All 3 have the same goal to win the stage today, so they work together very well.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Taiwan/mg_taiwan_7_7.jpg

With 21km to go the gap is under 1min now.
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/emu.png Montenegro and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Vespa.png Cattaneo with an attack try to bridge the gap and trick the sprinters.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Taiwan/mg_taiwan_7_8.jpg

13km to the finish there is still a small gap to the peloton, but no doubt the sprinter teams will catch them soon. Cattaneo and Montenegro overtook the former break and win the sprint with Dumoulin being 3rd here.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Taiwan/mg_taiwan_7_9.jpg

The 5 were so close when Romain Feillu crashed in the sprint preparations. His team mates did most work today so of course the pace became slower immediately.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Taiwan/mg_taiwan_7_10.jpg

What a mess. Half the peloton had no chance to avoid a big mass crash. Everybody is looking and asking around where their leaders are. The pace is totally out of the peloton now and the 5 leading riders get their second air.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Taiwan/mg_taiwan_7_11.jpg
Some big names within this crash.
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/oz-1.png Thuaux
So also the third of Oz`s climbers is out of the GC fight and just Ford hasn`t lost time yet.
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Aker.png Ortega, Roux
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Meiji.png Doi
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/puma.png Le Gac
and surely the biggest name down
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/hollister.png Kiserlovski

So one of the two big favourites will surely lose time today while the other one is already working for his team mate. Pretty unexpected situation so far.

But next to the crashed riders many riders got blocked in all the chaos and ride between the two groups now.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Taiwan/mg_taiwan_7_12.jpg
After all the nice results, Emu Export has bad luck today as their leader
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/emu.png Augustyn is one of those victims.

All other big names such as Gadret, Veloso, Sicard, Sano, Carrara or race leader Kinney had luck and are still in the first group.

One rider seems to ignore all the chaos and attacks. Who else but i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Vespa.png Quinziato?
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Taiwan/mg_taiwan_7_13.jpg

Pirelli is keeping a high pace and still try to catch the break. This makes it very difficult for the dropped riders.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Taiwan/mg_taiwan_7_14.jpg

With a bit more than 1km Quinziato reached the break and now Vespa has 2 riders in there.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Taiwan/mg_taiwan_7_15.jpg

Also i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/emu.png Krasnoperov is trying to bridge the gap and attacks within the final kilometers.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Taiwan/mg_taiwan_7_16.jpg

Di Nucci leading the sprinters with Bazajev following his team mate. Behind him Sonnery, Carrara, Bouhanni and Haedo all have good positions.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Taiwan/mg_taiwan_7_17.jpg

1km to go and the break still has a comfortable gap. Bazajev lost some ground and is behind Sonnery, Carrara and some others.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Taiwan/mg_taiwan_7_18.jpg

Obviously Emu Export`s lump is cracked with the 3rd consecutive stage win in Taiwan. Montenegro was the fastest uphill and wins ahead of Kwok and Cattaneo. Quinziato as 4th completes a good Vespa result but with two in the group they probably hoped for more.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Taiwan/mg_taiwan_7_19.jpg
Bazajev was again the strongest and finishes 5th after a perfect sprint securing some more points in the fight for the green jersey.

Augustyn loses 1'19 today. The only negative for Emu Export today.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Taiwan/mg_taiwan_7_20.jpg

Far worse for the big group of crashed riders around Kiserlovski. 3'52 later the unlucky riders from especially Hollister, Oz Cycling, Aker and Focus finish the stage.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Taiwan/mg_taiwan_7_21.jpg

At least no one got seriously injured and all riders are able to continue the race.
Bazajev extends the gap to Haedo in the fight for the point jersey, while Seeldraeyers is still wearing the KoM jersey with Ford taking care for Oz`s only positive with a solid ride and the Youth jersey.
