Time for the last mountainous stage in Switzerland. A longer climb in the middle of the stage and a smaller but probably more interesting one in the end with a last flat kilometer.
Pluchkin and Fothen have been the strongest yesterday showing a great form. But the top 10 in general is still pretty mixable and so we can expect an exciting stage.
No group until the first sprint. Kreder takes it ahead of Ghisalberti and Swift.
First two obviously use the situation and attack.
Some more riders are following them.
A group of 9 riders form todays breakaway. With Ghisalberti is a pretty good climbers in there.
Ghisalberti
Kreder
Duran
Rubiano Chavez
Öste-MacDonald
Ginanni
Margaliot, Ji
Grabovski
Kadri
The peloton is very slow at the moment allowing them to get away. No team really has ambitions to make the early pace.
Duran takes the first KoM ahead of Rubiano Chavez and Ghisalberti but Tschopp seems to far away. The Dutch is 1'47 behind.
Kreder already lost contact due to the high pace.
8min later the peloton crosses the top led by Festina and Santander.
These two teams surely do the most today. B&O relaxes a bit but always being attentive to have Pluchkin in a good position.
With 63km to go the gap is down to 5'30. They really do something now.
Öste-Macdonald takes the next KoM ahead of Ginanni and Duran. The group is down to 7 as also Chinese climber Ji surprisingly wasn`t able to follow.
In the peloton Intxausti and the aggressive Sinkewitz use this point for an attack.
Especially first one can`t be allowed to get a big gap as he is a dangerous top10 rider. Still they are already 48s ahead.
But with B&O taking the lead they are both caught with 27km to go.
The gap to the breakaway on the other hand widened again. Still 4'30.
2nd sprint and again no fighting. Rubiano Chavez ahead of Öste-MacDonald and Duran.
Ghisalberti sees the chance on a stage win or to improve in the overall. With 18km to go he attacks. The Italian is 23rd and 6'44 behind.
Just Öste-MacDonald is following him.
But he is too strong. Ghisalberti on a solo ride for the last 15km.
1min ahead of the group and still 4 ahead of the peloton.
Santander makes the pace now starting the final climb.
Ji and Kadri are just ahead and also the others of the former breakaway will be caught soon. It`s only Ghisalberti, who is still further ahead.
With 7,5km to go the next attacks. Gomez Marchante finally showing himself and also Sinkewitz again. The German tried it on almost every stage, so far without any luck.
Behind many riders are not able to follow. Marquez, Kohl and Pozzovivo the strongest, who had been positioned quite badly.
Also Suaza as 14th overall in this group.
Ardila with the next acceleration but more riders already prepare their move.
It`s the race leader Pluchkin, 2nd overall Fothen, Tenorio and Denifl.
Solo Ghisalberti takes the last KoM before the finish. Is the gap big enough to win the stage. It`s looking pretty well for him at the moment.
A group around Intxausti, Denifl, Tenorio, Sinkewitz, Popovych and Ardila is chasing the duo Pluchkin and Fothen. The 3rd rider there is Duran of the breakaway, who is also riding very strong.
Bad news for Velits and yesterdays most aggressive rider Henao. Both weren`t able to follow and are 22s back.
Devolder, Kohl, Abal, Pozzovivo really have a bad day being a bit further behind.
Gomez Marchante is still ahead of these groups together with Margaliot, Ginanni and Rubiano Chavez.
Big win for Ghisalberti. He was the strongest in the breakaway and wins stage 7 of the Tour de Suisse.
2'04 behing Pluchking once again proves to be the strongest. On the last 1,5km Gomez Marchante was caught.
Fothen being 3rd taking the last bonus seconds.
All the other favourites being in the same group including Henao, Sinkewitz and Ardila, who came back on the more flat part.
Velits loses 36s on the others today.
Kohl, Devolder, Abal, Martin and Pozzovivo really had a day to forget.
Another 21s behind Velits, almost 1min to Pluchkin.
Medvedev once again has a day off after his stage win. Together with Carrara and Burghardt he finishes another minute behind.
Marquez even loses more than 4min to Pluchkin. Very weak ride by him as in the whole Tour so far.
So UBS loses more than 7min on Vespa today and falls from 1st to 3rd in the team rankings.
Nestle new leader but also lost ~3min on Vespa today and are just 1'28 ahead.
Keizer for the stats losing more than 11min in the end. Very weak performance by him.
