Tour de Suisse - Stage 2
roturn
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_1-1.jpg
After the short prologue yesterday we immediately enter the mountains in this years edition.
After a longer climb in the end and a small flat section the final part is lightly uphill again, so all favourites must be concentrated as attacks are expected there to create small time gaps.

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/santander.png Justo Tenorio wears the leader jersey today and surely wants to keep it also after this one.

Just 3 riders in todays breakaway.
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/colombia.png Sarmiento
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pendletons.png Kennaugh
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/spyker.png Geniez
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_2-1.jpg
Before entering the really tough part of the first mountain they create a 2min gap to the peloton.

Cattaneo for Vespa and Ortega for Tenorio do the pace behind. Half way up the mountain they allow the group a gap over 4min.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_4-1.jpg

Kennaugh looked strongest on the top and takes the 16 points ahead of Sarmiento and Geniez.
Behind in the peloton no one is interested and so Ortega and Cattaneo roll over next with Hacecky and Bono grabbing the last small pointers.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_7-1.jpg

With 105km to go and a gap just under 7min more riders are send to the front to chase down the break.
Still no sign of other teams helping these two and so the pace is not high enough and the gap is still widening.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_9-1.jpg
At the same time i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Cabreira is the first rider to abandon this race without any known reason as he did not crash. Bad news for Intxausti as he was one of his best helpers for the hard mountain stages.

10km later a new situation. Santander and Vespa totally stopped to work and now Festina, B&O and Wiggle are chasing. All of them have big podium contenders participating in this race.
The gap is almost at 8min but now it`s finally melting again.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_13-1.jpg

Kennaugh also takes the first of two sprints. Geniez takes 2nd ahead of Sarmiento this time.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_16-1.jpg

Same picture some kilometers later. The front three are riding over the line in the same order.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_17-1.jpg

19km to go and the last big mountain starts. Almost 10km with an average of 8%. Surely not the easiest climb.
3'13 of their former advance is left for these three.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_18-1.jpg

Still Wiggle, B&O and Festina are doing the main work when starting the climb. Tenorio in the yellow is directly behind with a team mate protecting him.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_20-1.jpg

First attack in the peloton. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Vespa.png Carrara takes care for the first acceleration just 500m into the climb. He lost 38s yesterday but surely is a danger when getting a bigger gap.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_22-1.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/webeffect.png Rodriguez is the first to counter this move. He is a pretty similar rider to Carrara and together they are a well climbing duo.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_24-1.jpg

This causes a first split in the peloton. Bad luck for bad placed riders.
While his team mate is looking good ahead i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Vespa.png Bosisio can`t follow. This comes far earlier than expected.
But also i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/wikipedia.png Mai and probably most surprising i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/colombia.png Abal are caught in this 2nd group.
Especially the Spaniard of the Colombia squad belongs into the row of top 10 contenders, so his team manager can`t be happy with his performance right now.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_25-1.jpg

With 13km to go the duo joins the former breakaway still before the next mountain sprint. But also the peloton is not far behind. Just 50s between this two groups.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_29-1.jpg

More attacks behind and no one else than the yellow jersey of i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/santander.png Tenorio makes the start.
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/spyker.png Sinkewitz
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pendletons.png Ji
and i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/vesuvio.png Medvedev are directly behind him. Interesting to see that not the team leaders follow this move but more the luxury team mates.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_31-1.jpg

But with 10km to go everything is back together in a now 46 rider peloton, where also Abal found contact again to the pleasure of the Colombia manager.
Tenorio and Rodriguez immediately try again but not as powerful as the last time.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_33-1.jpg

So more attackers before the KoM point. i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pendletons.png Martin wins the next 16 points ahead of Abal, who surely is more concentrated now. Behind this duo the group comes closed over the line with Henao, Tenorio, Rodriguez, Pozzovivo and Fothen taking the rest of the points.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_35-1.jpg

6km to go and now i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/festina.png Fothen shows his power. The German moves to the front and makes the pace. The group immediately splits to 23 riders around all big favourites.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_37-1.jpg

A group of 6 riders including Ghisalberti follows 1min later.
But more well known riders are further behind. Bosisio and Keizer are 1'30 back and a group around Kangert and Grivko even 2'10 behind with Ginanni being even later.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_39-1.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/jackwolfskin.png Ardila with the next attack and it`s just 4km to go.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_46.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/colombia.png Abal joins him and together they have a tiny gap before the last uphill section starts.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_48-1.jpg

But led by race leader Tenorio all these two are caught again and now with 1,5km to go it`s Kohl and Gomez Marchante coming to the front on the left side.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_50-1.jpg

Inside the last kilometer some riders have problems to follow. Within these riders are Velits, Devolder Ghisalberti and Carrara.
Especially Spyker and Pearl should have expected more from their two leaders.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_51.jpg

Tenorio is still leading the group in the sprint but Pluchkin somehow found a way from the middle of the group and is coming on the left now. Also Denifl, Fothen, Intxausti and the UBS duo in good positions.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_52.jpg

And i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bo.png Pluchkin is the strongest and wins the stage. Even better for him as the officials identify a gap to the next and so he gains 16s on the next group of 14 riders and this also means he will get the leader jersey tomorrow.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_53.jpg

Tenorio and Popovych taking the last bonus seconds but all big favourites are in this group and so none of them lost much ground for the harder stages.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_54.jpg

Devolder (+41), Velits, Medvedev, Carrara and Rodriguez (+59) belong to the losers of this stage.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Suisse/mg_suisse_2_55.jpg
Ghisalberti, Bosisio, Kangert and Keizer all lost between 2'40 and 5min in the end and probably need to look for other goals in this race.
