With no major difficulties on today's route we should finally see the sprinters fighting for glory. With 2 very short climbs today, which won't give too many points in the KoM rankings, Pires' effort from the previous stages will be payed back by another day in the pink jersey, while Visconti should have no problems defending the yellow jersey


The main breakaway wasn't made at the top of the first climb of the day. There it was Auber's Pioline who took most of the KoM points

The French man was then joined in the lead of the race by 8 other riders: Vandewalle, van der Pluijm, Sestili, Mouris, Sys, Broco, Merino Criado and Taillefour

After Energie - Diese and Lipton, today it was Lafarge's turn to bring 2 riders in the breakaway

None of the escapes was interested in the KoM points today so on the next and last climb of the day we had no fight and it was La Gazzetta's Vandewalle who passed the top of the climb in the first position

Pioline had a pretty good day winning both of the intermediate sprints, even though he wasn't the strongest sprinter in the breakaway.

But behind, in the pack, his team - leader, Pierre Rolland, was again in trouble. One again because of a flat tire

The escapes had no chance to hang in front of the pack today and the last one to be caught was Vandewalle, with less than 8 kilometers before the finish line

Then, the pack head to the long waited in this years Tour de Suisse mass sprint. Pearl, Sony Ericsson and Cafe de Colombia were the most interested teams in creating competitive sprint train for their riders

And with a great lead out from David Vitoria it was Vanderbiest who got the best positions from the sprints with less than 4 kilometers to go

3.5 kilometers before the finish line, Cancellara crashed in the front rows of the pack and in no time, among others, Pluchkin, Ardila and Menchov were down as well!

In front the sprinters managed to avoid the crash and Pearl were dominating the sprint, with Sony Ericsson, right behind them, trying to bring Granjel Cabrera back in the game

Vanderbiest made his move from Vitoria's wheel with only 1 kilometer to go, at which point Granjel Cabrera had already won back some of the ground lost in early stages of the sprint

But Granjel Cabrera was left in the wind way too early by his team - mates and Vanderbiest was looking stronger and able to hold on to his lead in final meters of the stage

And the French man hanged on to win the first classic mass sprint of this year's Tour de Suisse! Granjel Cabrera and Castaneda followed him on the podium

Lafarge and B&O dropped back to help their leaders but they were able to finish only 1 minute and 39 seconds behind the winner

Only one distinctive jersey changed its wearer today, Phinney taking back the lead in the points rankings from Visconti, after finishing 18th in today's sprint
