Hey look, more mountains!

Egger (LKT) is the first attacker today. He is later joined by Blekevicius (Kalev), Safarzadeh (KazMunayGaz) and Yanes (Eroski). A dangerous group if you ask me, but the peloton seems happy to let them go.

Many teams make themselves available to help 7-eleven in the pursuit. Good news for Bajadali.

At the first KoM summit of the day the gap sits at 4’07’’. Safarzadeh wins it ahead of Yanes and Blekevicius

The gap continues to grow naturally reaching its maximum atop KoM no.2 (5min). Meanwhile Yanes has taken the intermediate sprint in an intense battle with Safarzadeh. However at the summit of the 2nd KoM it’s Egger who overtakes Safarzadeh and Blekevicius.

As we get to the first of two cat.2 climbs a group of riders tries to gap the peloton: it’s Schofmann (Miche), Loh and Chu (Fuji), Casar (Peugeot) and Leontenko (Commonwealth Bank). Already we have a numerous group of riders being dropped from the pack.

Safarzadeh attacks for the KoM. He’s been the most active in the break today. Will this prove costly later?

All attacks are brought back before the end of the descent. A good test of legs though. The break’s advantage sits on roughly 3min
The fourth climb brings no respite in both ends of the race. At the front they’re all attacking each other. In the pack is Mazet (SFR) who’s on the run this time

Mate (iBanesto.com), Leontenko (Commonwealth Bank), Tizza (Miche) and Casar (Peugeot) try after him but their effort doesn’t seem to be worth more than a cookie. The bunch is now a group of 83 men.

Safarzadeh wins another KoM sprint and is already the new virtual leader. Egger and Yanes follow.

Final intermediate sprint of the day. Again a tough challenge that only Egger decides to skip. The attackers behind him have surprisingly formed a group of five and have a minute on the pack, but they are still 2min behind the escapees. The final climb starts now. There are 13km to the finish line and they’re all uphill.
Rucanor lead the charge in the pack. They have been doing this for quite some time now and it’s all on Stamsnijder. Great day from the dutch

The gaps remain intact, but there are some ambitious men in the pack. You can see Sabido (Millenium) trying to catch the pursuers.

At the front Egger initiates the hostilities. Safarzadeh follows.
8km to go, the pack has almost caught the pursuers. The early break still has a 1’30 lead with Safarzadeh on the attack once again. Mate puts in a strong dig further back.

Shiferaw (Standard Bank) also shows his strength. He and Mate are on the BOTD’s heels. The amount of attacks on the pack is pretty high at the moment but they’re all neutralizing each other. The gaps are minimal.

With 5km to the summit Safardazeh gets off of his saddle once again. Incredible tenacity from him. But as he looks to his right he trembles with the sight of the horde behind him!

Everyone wants to get away from the pack! All hell has been unleashed! Poor Safarzadeh just gets swallowed. Courageous ride from him though.

Of the new peloton formed Saedi Tanha (KazMunayGas)and Sabido (Millenium) attack, could this be deciding move? - 3km to go

The final km is reached and Saedi Tanha is distancing himself. Behind, an uncountable number of groups are shredding themselves into nothing. The gradient is also much more easy now.

Final km, and the sprint has started. None of the front 2 seem to be too far ahead and the bunch sets off in pursuit. Bajadali is there and as it looks he’s probably going to retain his jersey but he needs to limit his losses. Can they catch the front duo?!

No they can’t! Saedi Tanha raises his right arm in celebration. Sabido just couldn’t keep up in the final meters. Tremendous show of strength from KazMunayGas.
