Today's 203km stage migth be the first opportunity for the puncheurs to get some advantages over the time trialist. There's three hills, although only 1 is categorized meaning Bellis will keep the KOM for another day, and the last one migth trigger some attacks from the favourites. Rider like Hagen, Ginanni, di Luca, Ricco, Sanchez, Pozzovivo, Nibali and Monfort could all have a shot at the stage.


In the first part of teh race there are loads of attacks as two groupes of riders get away. Whiel the pack chases after them, Schwab chose a very bad moment for a puncture. He makes it back eventually though.
As most of the first attackers are caugth, another load of attacks is triggerd. Meanwhile Garcia Rincon takes the first sprint just ahead of Klimov and Tondo.

There's now 3 groupes of attackers ahead of the peloton, and the pack descides to let go! They may be letting quite a large groupe go, which could be difficult to chase.
They are still split in three groupe though:
G1: Garcia Rincon, Klimov, Tondo, Perget, Grau, Garzelli, Herrero Llorente
G2 +'30: Wu, Reckweg, Jorgensen
G3 + 1'00: Frei, Engels, Jacobs, Miholjevic

And this situation doesnt change much until the second climb, as G2 and G3 mix up and shatter. They're now 1'30 behind while the pack is 6'30
back, but White Bear Steyr has speed up there and the lead is quickly melting. Meanwhile Lobato and Rolland descide to give it a go from the pack, where many sprinters are being dropped. Rolland is caugt soon, but Lobato takes a minute.

60k to go, 4 minutes left as Klimov takes the second sprint. obato has been caugth as well now, since he caugth up with riders from G2 and G3 which slowed him down.

And at the foot of the last climb, Ricco is off! First, it's only Sanchez who is following, but quickly followed by more attacks.

As Grau took the KOM points ahead of Sanchez and Ricco, more favourites get over the top in a few groupes. We can see Pozzovivo, Vastaranta, Niemiec, Kroonm Ginanni and Hushovd(!). Flecha, Cherel, Boom, di Luca and Karpets follow a little later.

We're in the descent with 7km to go and this is the situation:
G1: Sanchez, Ginanni, Karpets
G2 +'21: Niemiec, Kroon
G3 +'17: Pozzovivo, Vastaranta, Flecha, Cherel, di Luca, Ricco
G4 +'30: Gusev, Hushovd, Kolesnikov, Hagen, Marzano, Capecchi, Ulissi, Nibali
Pack +'33

With 3km to go, all groupes seem to close in on eachother with a few attacks here and there, while the first three riders keep their lead.
Going into the fianl km, Karpets is off.

And he holds it to the line! Victory for American Suzuki, with Ginanni second and Sanchez third.

The second groupe consistes of 14 riders, lead in by Pozzovivo, 40 seconds behind. The pack comes in at 2 minutes.
