Int. Osterreich Rundfahrt - Stage 6
roturn
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/mg_austria_6_1.jpg
Today could be the first sprint finish. Except of some speed bumps on the first half we have perfect conditions for the sprinter teams.

8 riders in todays breakaway.
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Schillenger
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/emu.png Seledkov
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pirelli.png Dupont
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Pokerstars.png Raabe
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/siemens.png Brenes
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Monterastelli
and probably the two most interesting in this group:
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bianchi.png De La Fuente
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Rothaus.png Ruijgh
The Spaniard of the Bianchi squad is 15th in the overall, 11min behind Alarcon but just 1min behind the 10th.
Ruijgh is even placed a bit better. As 13th, 34s ahead of De La Fuente. Both of them don`t count as best time trialists and will probably look to gain some time before tomorrows race against the clock.
Again no D2 rider. That`s surely not what their managers hoped for.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/mg_austria_6_2.jpg

Saab is doing the pace for Chicchi. The Italian might be the best sprinter in this race, especially after Guillou looked injured in the last stages after his crash. Even Lövkvist has to work now. The Swedish leader disappointed so far and is just 27th. His team mate Eltink at least is still fighting for the top10. Also Aker is doing their part for race leader Alarcon.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/mg_austria_6_6.jpg

Surprisingly Ruijgh goes for the KoM instead of saving his energy to get a higher overall with this breakaway. He already has 8 points but even if he wins the maximum amount of points today, he won`t be able to pass the top2 with Rujano and Alarcon.
De La Fuente and Brenes are next. Last one already has 19 points and could become the new KoM leader today. But then he needs to improve in the next 2 sprints.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/mg_austria_6_7.jpg

The Dutch also takes the 2nd KoM. This time Brenes at least challenged him a bit. Schillenger comes over the line as 3rd taking the last points.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/mg_austria_6_8.jpg

The peloton behind isn`t doing a lot, so the gap starts to extend a lot.
With 135km to go Ruijgh is in the virtual lead as the gap is over 10'30 now.
For sure the peloton won`t them much more.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/mg_austria_6_9.jpg

Ruijgh obviously is feeling great. Although he would have great chances to get a high top 10 spot he still goes for the KoM points. Winning the high pointer here makes him jump on the 3rd. De La Fuente and Seledkov are the next, while Brenes obviously couldn`t respond and isn`t even in he top5, that were rewarded some points.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/mg_austria_6_11.jpg

No real chasing t the moment. Proximus has one rider in front now seeing the danger also for Valverde.
106km to go and already 14min advance. The sprinter teams obviously won`t do much today as nobody wants to work for the other teams and with Pokerstars obviously doing nothing for an injured Guillou, the GC teams need to react.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/mg_austria_6_13.jpg

Proximus is doing this now. With 5 riders they lead the peloton starting to reduce the gap. After some kilometers they already got 3min from them.
87km -> 11'47
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/mg_austria_6_15.jpg

And also Saab is seeing their chance again although it`s quite unlikely that the break will be caught again. The top10 teams probably won`t tell them and enjoy Saab`s work for their leaders.
18km -> 4'02
Ruijgh and De La Fuente won`t make a big jump into the top5 but still have the chance to enter the top 10. Also the fight for the stage win will be interesting.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/mg_austria_6_17.jpg

Bad crash involving some riders. Most notable surely the 10th in the overall:
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/emu.png Krasnoperov. Bad luck for him as the pace is too high now. He won`t come back.
Also the first abandon must be noted:
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pirelli.png Saldarriaga seems to be injured and can`t continue the race. The climber was at least 28th in the overall.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/mg_austria_6_19.jpg

The breakaway is now preparing for the sprint. Just 7 riders are left as i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Monterastelli lost contact. So we surely won`t see another Venchi victory after Agnoli`s coup yesterday.
Seledkov-DeLaFu-Ruijgh-Schillenger-Raabe-Dupont-Brenes to name the order.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/mg_austria_6_22.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/siemens.png Brenes is coming around early. Alrady with 1,5km to go he moves to the left starting a long sprint.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/mg_austria_6_24.jpg

But this was too early. With 750m to go i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/bianchi.png De La Fuente makes his move around Seledkov.
i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Rothaus.png Ruijgh is immediately following him, while the other riders are coming on the right side.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/mg_austria_6_25.jpg

But the two climbers obviously had most energy left after the hard mountain stages. De La Fuente wins todays stage ahead of Ruijgh, who finished 2nd two days in a row now. Tomorrow he surely won`t. Dupont comes in 3rd ahead of Schillenger, Raabe, Seledkov and Brenes.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/mg_austria_6_26.jpg

1'53 later Valverde leads the peloton over the line. This means: Ruijgh will improve on the 8th, De La Fuente being 9th now. Both of them have a nice gap to the 11th now and a top10 is possible for them. Krasnoperov falls back on the 17th today.
More notable the 9th for Gaywood today finishing 2nd in the peloton. But this isn`t really much worth if a breakaway without D2 riders decides the stage.
