Int. Osterreich Rundfahrt - Stage 5
roturn
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Austria/mg_austria_5_1.jpg
It looks like a possible sprinter stage. But the last 2km are very steep and could even be interesting for any GC favourite.
So everything can happen today.

14 riders are in an early breakaway attempt. Within these again a D2 rider in Klimov.
Biggest names surely Schwab, Osella or Vigano.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Austria/mg_austria_5_2.jpg

Seledkov is coming from behind making it 15 riders but he also brings the peloton with him.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Austria/mg_austria_5_4.jpg

And so everything runs together again, although we are already close to the first KoM at 53km.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Austria/mg_austria_5_6.jpg

Schwab, Jaramillo and Diaz Corrales are still in the first rows and take the KoM points.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Austria/mg_austria_5_7.jpg

But it took until the descent to see another attack.
It`s D2 rider Mahdi Sohrabi, riding for the Armavia Team.
The Iranian champion is a sprinter with decent climbing skills.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Austria/mg_austria_5_8.jpg

Aker Solutions is doing good behind. The control the peloton and also keep the gap to Sohrabi under 2min.
The long climb now starts. We are 70km to the finish.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Austria/mg_austria_5_9.jpg

And here we see the next attack. It`s i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Agnoli. The Italian is a good climber but as 27th he is already more than 17min behind.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Austria/mg_austria_5_11.jpg

Easily he passes Sohrabi, who seems to suffer a bit on the climb now.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Austria/mg_austria_5_13.jpg

So Agnoli takes the maximum points. Sohrabi follows 1min behind, while also the peloton slowed down a bit and is another 3min behind.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Austria/mg_austria_5_14.jpg

There Ferrari seems to have big ambitions today, although none of them is a big favourite with such a finish. It`s more a perfect stage for Valverde. So not surprising to see a Proximus rider there as well.
Buth with 40km to go and 5'30 for Agnoli this can become hard.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Austria/mg_austria_5_15.jpg

Therefore we see more attacks behind. No one else than i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/pirelli.png Van Den Broeck, who once again proves to be one of the strongest in Austria.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Austria/mg_austria_5_18.jpg

But he got caught again. But he isn`t giving up and with 12km to go he goes again. This time he is followed by i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Trilux.png Devenyns. The two of them are passing Sohrabi now, who falls back into the peloton after his long solo ride. Agnoli is still 2'30 ahead.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Austria/mg_austria_5_19.jpg

But with 3km it comes again to the catch with Van Den Broeck. The steep part will be all about positioning now. So he is at least sitting in a comfortable position.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Austria/mg_austria_5_21.jpg

Kolesnikov, Rujano, Alarcon and Ruijgh are in the best positions. Also Caruso and Van Den Broeck are within the first riders.
Valverde and Pozzovivo are a bit behind missing the entry into the hill a bit.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Austria/mg_austria_5_23.jpg

i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Venchi.png Valerio Agnoli won`t matter. He comes into the finish line solo. His attack was perfect today. Nice win for the team, who have an underperforming Duarte so far.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Austria/mg_austria_5_25.jpg

A bit surprising i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/Rothaus.png Ruijgh wins the sprint of the peloton and finishes on a good 2nd ahead of i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/ANFreeman/Jersey%20Sprites/tinkoff.png Kolesnikov. Also Alarcon, Valverde, Pozzovivo, Rujano and Van Den Broeck are in this group.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Austria/mg_austria_5_26.jpg

Then a split. But thanks to the race judges the later riders won`T lose time to the Alarcon group. Good luck for Caruso and all the others, who haven`t been concentrated on the climb.
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game/Austria/mg_austria_5_27.jpg

D2: With Klimov and Melero at least two riders finished in the big peloton today. This also means they will climb in the team rankings. They passed Rothaus and CSC.
