Already on the 2nd day we will see a very prestigous climb in Austria. We are going up the Kitzbüheler Horn, a very tough climb. It`s pretty steep and hard to ride, so we can surely expect some huge time gaps today.
No group has been formed with 14km to go. Some tried and are still ahead of the peloton at the KoM point. Seledkov takes the points ahead of Rajala and Gottfried.
14 riders form the break of the day. And another disappointment for the D2 Team. None of their riders jumped into the group and so they will have another pretty anonymous day.
Raabe
Valjavec, Vandborg
Sutherland, Gottfried
Brolin
Seledkov
Ignatenko
Devenyns
Parra Bustamante
Maisto
Agnoli
Schwab
Koep
Interesting to see a good climber with Schwaab here. He lost some minutes yesterday but surely wants to present himself here.
Rothaus, Pirelli and Aker do the early pace. So Rothaus is working for Novak today. Koep also isn`t working in the breakaway. He is just taking care there.
But with 77km and still a gap of 6'25 Proximus, Pirelli and Vespa are doing more serious. They really accelerate now.
PArra Bustamanete takes the 2nd KoM ahead of Schwab and Valjavec. Just small pointers in comparison to the final climb.
Bad moment to puncture. And it`s again Van Den Broeck, who surely can`t enjoy the race so far.
Also a very bad moment with just 21km to go and a high pace.
Pirelli immediately send 5 riders back to help him. Some kind of team time trial now.
10km and the first attacks. Nobody else than Jose Alarcon tries it with an early move. Behind him it`s Lövkvist and Rujano, who both lost some time yesterday.
The breakaway is already halfed and also starts the climb. There isn`t a big gap to the rest and so it will be hard for them.
You can see the narrow roads here, so it will be hard for bad positioned rider.
After being caught again it`s Rujano, who tires it again. He looks very powerful now.
He overtakes all the breakaway riders and leads the race just now.
Behind some more riders became active.
Rujano is 19s ahead of a group including Krasnoperov, Schwab and Caruso. Another minute behind all other favourites and the yellow jersey of Novak are in a 54 rider peloton.
Aker and Alarcon are closing the gap to the Caruso group. But Rujano is still ahead.
Also Lövkvist and Ruijgh try to bridge the gap to the 12 rider group in front.
Good to see Ruijgh is going for his own, while Novak is behind in the pack surely losing the yellow today. But more surprising the riders next to him: Pozzovivo, Duarte and even at the end of the group: Valverde, Kolesnikov and De La Fuente as also Van Den Broeck who finall managed to come back. Just 5,5km to go.
With 3,5km to go:
Rujano -- 37s -- Caruso, Krasnoperov, Alarcon, Maisto, Schwab -- 29s -- Lloret -- 32s -- Pozzovivo -- 32s -- Ratiy, Lövkvist, Ruijgh, Valverde, Txurruka, Laverde -- 45s -- Duarte, Kolesnikov, VDB
Final kilometer and Rujano will surely win this stage.
Behind him Caruso attacks for 2nd, while Krasnoperov and Alarcon are waiting.
Rujano with an excellent performance. Yesterday losing more than 2min and today he is back in the fight for the overall win.
Caruso comes in 2nd gaining 17s on Krasnoperov and Alarcon. A shame that the first 3 all lost time yesterday and so Alarcon takes the overall lead as 4th today. But at least all 4 are back in the fight for the overall and entered the top9.
Pozzovivo and Valverde might be big losers today missing the jump to the front group. Both are 39s behind Alarcon in the overall now and have good chances.
Ratiy comes in 7th with a solid performance.
The Bianchi duo lost some time in the end for some reason. Lloret was well placed but couldn`t finish ahead of Valverde and Pozzovivo. He loses ~30s to Valverde and is 5th overall now.
~4min behind Rujano Duarte, Lövkvist and Ruijgh finish the race, still 1min ahead of Van Den Broeck. The unlucky Belgium wasn`t weak at all. He just isn`t lucky in Austria so far.
Not the best day for the D2. Melero and Laverde both finish 5'28 behind moving them into the top40 at least.
