Olympia's Tour - Stage 2
roturn
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_2_PCM0001.jpg

After the prologue the first real stage waits for the riders. 150 kilometers without any climb. As flat as it can be and so an obvious chance for the huge sprinter competition here. Surely some may be disappointed in the end as there just aren`t enough top3 or top5 spots to deliver all manager dreams. That said, one will win for sure and so let`s start the stage.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_2_PCM0002.jpg

Lots of riders wanted into the breakaway. Three in the end made it just ahead of the first sprint to steal the bonus seconds from the sprinters.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cal.png Gaudin
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pbn.png Wohler
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bbk.png Klimiankou

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_2_PCM0008.jpg

TomTom for Elijzen, LaVieClaire for Reus and Jaguar for Bennett/Tennant? are doing the early pace. The gap though climbs to more than 5min.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_2_PCM0015.jpg

So it`s time for the sprinter teams to close it.
Quickstep the first. Then joined by Meiji and Puma and a little bit later also Oz Cycling.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_2_PCM0017.jpg

Bad luck for i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cal.png Gaudin. Just before the 2nd sprint he crashes. This is very unlucky as he is one of the best cobblers here and with the gained bonus seconds he could become a threat of course.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_2_PCM0019.jpg

Wohler takes the 2nd sprint ahead of Klimankou. Behind Gaudin with a 40s gap but he will rejoin them 4km later.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_2_PCM0026.jpg

Wohler also takes the 3rd sprint with Gaudin ahead of Klimiankou then. But the gap is below 2min now.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_2_PCM0029.jpg

And with 13km they are caught. No chance for them as too many sprinter teams were interested.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_2_PCM0031.jpg

With 7 Puma riders in the first 10 spots, you could almost become afraid of their dominance at the moment. They really keep a high pace here while the actual train forms a bit behind.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_2_PCM0033.jpg

But it`s the Quickstep train for Vantomme to be fastest with 4km to go. That said it`s a train of only 2 riders while Ciolek has 3 riders ahead of him!

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_2_PCM0052.jpg

Soon Meersman can`t hold the high pace and the Puma riders close the gap. Still 2,7km to go and Ciolek with 2 fresh riders ahead.
And luckily for the managers Lavoine, Holloway and Kreder made it to the end of the Puma train.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_2_PCM0058.jpg

Puma taking over as Giaux comes to the front with his leader right behind him.
Vantomme now without a helper not looking comfortable at all.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_2_PCM0065.jpg

1km and Ciolek in front. Granjel Cabrera and Goss next with Giaux going backwards now.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_2_PCM0069.jpg

Lavoine and in especially Holloway were able to get into a good position. In especially the US American having a nice pace now going past Goss.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_2_PCM0071.jpg

He even goes into 2nd position behind Ciolek while Lo Cicero is the fastest now in 5th position.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_2_PCM0073.jpg

A bit behind the long list of beaten riders. Vantomme, Castaneda, Maksimov or Kupfernagel still ahead of many more such as Rowe, Vanoverschelde, Serebriakov etc.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_2_PCM0077.jpg

Ciolek with a full speed sprint taking the deserved win after an excellent team work. Brilliant train here and without any other real train, it was almost too easy for them.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_2_PCM0078.jpg

What a sprint by Lo Cicero as well. His last 500m must have been super fast as he takes 2nd in the end ahead of a shocked Holloway.
Granjel Cabrera and Goss just miss out on important bonus seconds.

Behind them Lavoine, Giaux, Maksimov, Vantomme and Castaneda. Exept for 2nd probably some of the most disappointing riders.

Also Kupfernagel as 12th, Rowe 27th, Vanoverschelde 29th or Bennett 25th not the best day.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_2_PCM0079a.jpg

But then some shocking news. Lots of crashes within the final 5km. At least 4 were captured and we have many sprinters like Fonseca, Serebriakov, Modolo included. Also some time trialists like Haga or Griffith.
And then the most shocking news. Also race leader Ford!

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_2_PCM0080.jpg

He is losing more than 3min today and this way losing his GC lead and any chance to win the race. What a shame.
At least no rider had to abandon today.
